White Cross Memorial

Easy to access at dusk as an overnight stop along I-15 -- about 10mi in from highway traffic and just off the road to the left.

There were maybe 5 spots that could be utilized -- only one other camper van there on a Saturday night in May. May have been more places beyond but road starts getting rocky and rough. A couple spots were big enough to support us with our travel trailer.

Part of area fenced in as private property but public welcome. Some historical information explaining the cross and memorial site.

No cell service.

Went here as first time to explore area primarily due to it being close to Las Vegas. We went in on a Thursday and stayed two nights. No other camplers at the memorial site so easy to find a spot. The roads into and around the memorial are not too rough but outcrops of granite can be a challenge to your RV underside. I took out one of my stabilizer jacks on one of these. Also patches of soft sand required me to use four wheel drive while maneuvering our trailer.

Recommended for camper or high clearance trailer. It was quiet at night with gorgeous night skies but the wind can get pretty gusty especially this time of year. It can also be cooler here than the surrounding communities due to the higher elevation as compared to Primm, Baker, etc.

The area is worth exploring but I would recommend staying at Hole in the Wall campground.

This location is absolutely beautiful. Rough boulders everywhere combined with sandy soil creates natural walking paths to explore. Last year's fires torched most of the plants in the area, but luckily the road served as a barrier, and the forest of Joshua trees and other shrubs in this camping area remained untouched. There area chollas though, so the area isn't entirely pet friendly.

There's a small loop surrounding the memorial with two sites, each with a picnic table. There's also a road on the left on the base of the loop that connects to Kessler Peak Road Dispersed Camping Area, so for all intents it's the same location. I got no Verizon service and a barely useful 1 MPS down, 0 up on T-Mobile, both services boosted.

The only negative is that I was there on Easter weekend, and a large group came to camp and have a Easter morning church service, taking over the entire loop area. Nice people, but very noisy (kids, generators, singing, ...).

Some reviewers listed a $1 fee to camp here, but I didn't see anything requiring payment nor a donation box.

This spot is exceptional. Stayed in the first pullout on the left after passing the cross. About a dozen other spots in the area — some better than others, but all very clean. The spot I stayed in was very quiet, except for the occasional car passing by on the hwy (not busy or bothersome though).

Spaced out camping areas. Built up fire pits. Joshua trees and boulders abound. The August 2020 burn cuts through about half of the camping area. All still gorgeous though.

I got there at ~2:30pm after an early morning hike and relaxed in the sun all day. People started showing up for spots by 4ish, and all seemed occupied by 6pm. Stayed late March, and it snowed over night :)

Moderate wind, but fairly protected. Gorgeous sunset too! No AT&T service. 1-2LTE bars on nearby peak hiking trail.

This is a beautiful spot! You'll pass a mile or so of fields of Joshua trees on the way in. Then, at the main entrance to the memorial, you find a trailhead across the street, two picnic tables and a shade tree, and of course the cross itself. There is a road that goes further into the fields toward a mountain to the east, a bit rocky for a sedan, but fine for an SUV.

We encountered two long stay vehicles, but other than that, not many visitors. Trail was awesome, found a few old mine shafts fenced off.

If you keep driving to the left after you've passed the monument, there's a few more little spots to park and have a fire, and cell signal magically reappears if you follow northeast.

Watching the sun set over one Mountain, and rise over another was awesome. We did encounter some gnats for about an hour at sunset, but they subsided after awhile.
