Very remote campground. Clean vault toilets but no water available. When we visited one of the access roads was washed out and closed but road conditions are clearly posted on the website. Well graded but very dusty dirt roads. Small sites, no drive through.
Higher altitude so cooler conditions for the desert.

This is one of the best desert campgrounds in the entire state because it is difficult to get to it. I'm not really a campground kind of guy, but this one I don't mind at all. Lots of juniper trees and desert flora to hide each camp site after you pass the first few sites. The middle and back campsites are the best. Just beware the furthest ones in the back can be exposed to the winds as there is a significant drop at the edge of the campsites (highly not recommended for small children) overlooking the open valley floor. The tradeoff is you get the best views in the entire campground.
To get here you really need to be familiar with driving in this park and the desert in general. You'll get some privacy, has a bathroom and has a table and firepit. Very, very difficult to get here as the road in is very long and extremely bumpy. You can do it in a sedan but it is going to take some expert driving and driving significantly slow. Takes about 60-80 minutes to get to the campground from the main road if you don't have a 4x4. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it to everyone who appreciates the desert's beauty. The road in is moderately traveled so I think the road maintains its hard packed surface most of the year. I wouldn't drive this road after a rainfall.
However, no way you'll get an RV here. It's a huge risk trying to bring one up here. There are parts where you're almost going straight up for a quarter mile, parts where there are huge valleys that ascend/descend quickly and some parts where you won't have room to turn in any vehicle larger than a pickup truck. I love going anywhere that has no RVs. So if you're like me, love the desert and want to avoid the mansions on wheels, this is your place. Absolutely love it and always dream about my annual trips here

This was an amazing place to stay and I wish we had more time. We were at Hole-In-The-Wall first and decided to check it out. So glad we did. The road to it is really rough, washboard ALL the way but worth every bump! Harder to get to, ore secluded, super awesome.

Continue to the end of the ring road for the best spots. We overlooked the valley and found a route to the boulders that we hiked on the second day. Mid may it was quite warm still, definitely pack in more water than you think. We had neighbours one night that we heard slightly but only saw when they left. Even though the camp has rubbish and recycle bins it was a shame to see that people had dumped rubbish over the edge of the camp to the valley below; I posted a photo of the bottles and rubbish we collected.

Mid Hills provides the same amenities as Hole in the Wall - picnic tables, pit toilets, water, and trash receptacles. The difference is that the elevation is 1,200 feet higher and the location is a little more remote. There are plenty of trees which screen you from any neighbors, providing more privacy. I also found it less crowded, quieter, and I had a stunning view.
I'm not sure how larger RV's would fare, but smaller ones had no problem at all.
Mid Hills is a perfect choice if you want privacy and a wilder experience.
