The downside is there is a lot of broken glass and garbage indicating locals are using this to loiter. (Likely the cause of the closed signs).
You will hear a train in the distance, but it’s not close enough to be a nuisance. While we didn’t let our kids play outside we would stay here again when passing through Lordsburg.

Sign posted at park entrance states “park closed from 10 pm to 6 am”. We heeded the sign and went to the KOA down the street.

Veterans park is on the South edge of town in a desert landscape. The camping area is free and has water at several of the sites. The pictures tell it all. Nothing fancy and a little dust, but quiet with plenty of room. Close to I-10 and far enough away to not have the noise.

Felt very safe and it’s clean. Quite a few spots and would be easy if you had a big rig. We were in a van so it’s great for us! Nice little area didn’t explore the area around didn’t seem like there’s much but great to stay for a night

Awesome tribute to our Veterans but while it’s conveniently located just off I-10, it’s a little run down, in a run down part of town.
Females traveling solo may feel a little vulnerable.
Sites are fairly level, only a few have water.

Some reviews didn't like the thorny bushes. Hey, it's the Sonoran desert, and its no cost! The town of Lordsburg is to be commended for creating and maintaining this park dedicated to all veterans which can handle any size rig. It has covered tables, barbecue stands, and several faucets of potable water. It's quiet to boot. The dumpsters were empty when I was here and only occasional litter could be seen. Let's all keep it that way to show respect and appreciation to the town.

Only stayed one night. Came in after dark. A few other RV’ers already set for the night. Easy park to get in and out of. In the morning we did a little exploring and reading the signs posted before getting on the road. Will definitely stay again.
Thank you!

Veterans Park is a city park just off of Interstate 10 that offers free camping and is also big rig friendly. We had plenty of room to parallel park our truck and fifth wheel trailer (50 feet long combined) next to one of the numerous covered picnic areas. In addition, the parking area was wide enough to open our three slides for the night. The roads are mostly graveled and hard-packed, but there are some dirt areas. Cellular service was awesome. Verizon clocked in at 61.2 Mbps download speed and 45.1 Mbps upload speed. AT&T clocked in at 59.3 Mbps download speed and 11.4 Mbps upload speed. The arched Veterans Park sign over the main entry does not have the height clearance posted, but our 13 feet, 6 inch rig cleared the arch with about a 12 inches to spare. There is another entrance to the park immediately past the main arch entrance with no height restriction. A dumpster is located to the rear of the park. Trains pass through all night, but this park is still a free overnight camping gem for the self-contained traveler.

Great for big rigs and easy access. We decided to stop over on our way to Carlsbad Caverns. Arrived at sundown and thought for sure that during the Memorial Day weekend it would be a bit crowded but we were the only ones here. Very easy to get in and out of with our 42’ coach. It was dry when we stayed but based on some muddy tracks, would recommend you stay clear of the narrow section on the west side of the park and stay in the open gravel lot which showed no signs of rutting. You will hear train and freeway noise from about a mile and a half to the north but it is not at all loud or distracting. The birds in the morning with their melodic songs make up for it!
The place was clean although a bit overgrown in some places. We were so impressed that we really want to send a note of thanks with a donation to the VFW that put this together!

Big rig friendly. There was a nice big gravel area with plenty of room outside the park for us to stay the night. There is also a KOA about a block away. There was another rv parked outside the park. I would definitely want to come back and stay inside the park. There is nothing posted to say when it will be opening again. The nice video that was posted clearly shows exactly what to expect.

I called to verify the park was open to the Lordsburg Visitor center. Greeted by a Hello rather than Visitor Center I was able to verify that the park was open as I was concerned due to Coronavirus restrictions and traveled to Lordsburg. What I found was an overgrown campground with the inability to even sit at the tables. This facility should be closed until it can be properly maintained as it shows more of a lack of respect than the original intentions. The posted sign allowed for day use only but even 10 minutes was too long. Under different circumstances it would be a good overnight as long as you had your own bathroom facilities as nine when available. Disappointing as I called to ensure and was treated as if asking if it were open was a stupid question only to find a closure and overgrowth.

Stopped by 4-17-20 on the way to TX for the night. The park is closed with yellow caution tape. I assume its because of the covid thing but wanted to give folks a heads up if they plan on coming here for the night, it is in face closed. We drove down the street and paid 40 bucks at the KOA because we had to.
