for a non electric/ water site this is pretty nice. plenty of space in between sites & a fantastic hiking trail system right there. didn't make it all the way to the water but the trails are fantastic.

During the week this is an incredibly quiet campground. On a Sat in late August, it was empty enough that we easily found a different site when a noisy group chose to camp near our initial one. The forest is beautiful but also makes it impossible to get decent solar. We are grateful for a tip from a prior review: We moved our Class B+ rig to the Trailhead parking lot during the day where we got adequate solar. The cell signal here is extremely variable but is better in the parking lot. That is the signal strength I reported. Most of the road into the campground is newly paved. Only the last few miles have older, roughed up pavement. Vault bathrooms were well cared for. Only bugs were small swarms of non-biting gnats that appeared only when you stood still. No need to make reservations except perhaps for a 3-day weekend. Even then you will still find a site. The hiking trail is just for people (no bikes, horses or ATVs). We LOVED how quiet it is! With our Wrinkle Reward, we paid only $6 per night. A tremendous deal.

Its a pretty area and the trail system right there had at least 20 miles of hiking. The campground itself seems unkept. A lot of overgrown unlevel sites, but there are plenty of decent sites to choose from that will fit any size rig. We took site 71, it got a little sun and cell reception. There are well pumps but the water was disgusting looking, so bring your own water.
The Alleghany Reservoir is accessible by hiking 3 miles to it on the trails. Or there is a boat launch 3 miles down the road that makes a great place to paddle.

This was only 6 bucks a night with my Old Timers card. Very lightly used. I'd recommend going in and looking for your favorite site and then putting the money in the box instead of bothering with reservations.. There is a dump site but no potable hose water. Pit toilets. There are pumps for regular water use. Bring the bug repellent.
I really enjoyed it. Very few people and at night, crazy quiet. My cell booster came in handy here.
