The $0 nightly fee was due to our Thousand Trails Membership. This is a first come-first serve campground. However, they recently instituted a system to allocate sites based on length of the RV. When you check-in, your RV length determines which labled site your should use: (L-Large, M-Medium, S-Small or T-Tent). This is to help keep Large and Medium sites for Long and Medium length RVs. Worked for us.
The bathroom in the loop was well maintained. Although, a little small for the number of the sites in the loop (2 showers (1 accessible), 1 toilet and 1 urinal). The roads can be dusty, even at the 5 mph speed limit. Our site was dirt and dusty and we tracked in plenty of dust.
The pool was open, which was very nice. It is a good size pool. The lodge was open and held the campground store. Water and electricity available at the site. The water pressure was high and the campground recommends using a pressure regulator to bring down the pressure from their 100 psi. I had no issues with our 30-amp electrical connection. No sewer connection at the site. Dump station as you leave.
Verizon cell signal was 2 bars. Ran speed test Thursday afternoon (76Mbps) and again Saturday morning (16 Mbps). I'm assuming there were more people using the signal on Saturday morning. The campground did fill up Friday night.
We would come back again.

Two other lakes within a 5 min drive. Takes about 20min to Donner Lake and 30-40 to Truckee. Great hikes within a 10 minute drive making it a solid destination.
We had no power issues.

This is our second trip here this summer. We got a one year Thousand Trails membership from our dealer, so for us it was no cost. The down side to this was it is difficult to complain and request a refund, which we really want to do. I want to like it, and there is a lot good about this campground, consistent with the other reviews. However, as with most Thousand Trails, it is poorly maintained. Each Thousand Trails we visited had some sort of outage, power, wireless, etc. Every single one, every single trip including the two visits here. Our site is nice, on a corner in Upper Fawn. Not facing the lake, but very spacious and surrounded by trees, with a lovely forest view out our back hatch. Our first trip we were in lower fawn. It was nice, but right next to the main road and all of the dust with not much of a view.
On our first trip to Snowflower, we had a 2 hour power outage, and they shut off the water due to a broken pipe, also a couple of hours. Now for our current trip that we are still on. The power has been out for almost 48 hours in the majority of the campground (went out a few hours after we arrived and we have been here 2 nights out of our 4 night trip). No attempts to keep people informed, even in and old fashioned method of posting updates on the trash cans and restrooms, let alone the fact that they should easily be able to broadcast text/email updates. There are many frustrated and angry campers here with little recourse except to leave and even that is probably not possible for everyone. We have some solar back up, so are not in dire straights, but remember that nice tree cover? It’s great until you need the sun.
The last window to be back up was yesterday afternoon, then we accidentally overheard toward the end of the expected restoration of power that the electricians needed a part and they had to go to Modesto to get it. So now it is 12:30 PM the next day. No power, no updates, no apologies, no offers to compensate with something from the store, etc. Then there is the dust. Other reviewers commented on it, and yes, it’s camping, but when you have to move your solar panels around in a dust bowl, you and everything around you are covered including your solar panels; all on top of the road dust and the dust that kicks into the air when you take each step. My trailer is going to need to be scrubbed inside and out top to bottom.
Then, on top of everything else, there are two dump stations. One near the entrance in an extremely awkward location on the wrong side of the road. The other more convenient one is also down, with no ETA and we clearly have no expectation it will be repaired by the time we leave. As my husband just said, we may as well be in a WalMart parking lot or a road side rest stop.
So, we will not come back again and we cannot recommend Thousand Trails membership to anyone in good conscience. Things happen, and we can go with the flow, but 4 out 4 trips have had outages of some kind in the last few months, and this one is pretty bad. If we had paid for a membership or for the stay here, the frustration level would be much higher, so feel for others who did.
Note: in rating the specifics below, access, location, etc. Those are all good. I rated site quality low just simply because I can’t use my site the way it is intended. It was the only place to indicate my dissatisfaction. However, if everything worked as intended, I would certainly rate it higher.

Came in late Friday so we got a squished site in the group area. A place by the lake is pretty tough to get. Probably need to move there the morning of your second day (wishful thinking on a Saturday). Anyway, some nice spots opened up in the Tahoe loop Saturday morning but we’re only here 3 nights so not worth the move. Very rough dirt roads up the hill to the “not by the lake” sites. About a mile and a half at 5 mph to save the rig. 4 washers, 3 out of order. We went to Truckee to do laundry. Cool Donner museum there. Not much of an area to enjoy the lake if you don’t have a site by it. Pretty crowded. We didn’t bother trying to fit our chairs in.

This is a very busy place on the weekends with lots for families to do. Some sites are crazy close together and others have space to spare.
We stayed 4 days up in the area called Tahoe with space to spare. The only drawback is that there is no dump at the sites (anywhere in the park) so you either have to sign up in advance for the $40 honey wagon or drive down the steep rough road to the central dump station. Some people have their dump buddy thingy to haul to the dump station. We don’t have one.
So, we drove down the hill and decided to change spots. Check out time is 11:00 so you can find a different site before the new arrivals pick theirs at 12:00. We chose #10 in Lower Fawn. It’s a short walk to the lake from there and the bathhouse is just up the hillside in Redwood. Showers were adequate.
We got some local tv when up in the Tahoe section but none in Lower Fawn. There is satellite dish available.
Verizon LTE was strong with 2-3 bars

I chose to do the upper loop and ended up in the Tahoe Loop section. I’m glad I made that choice. With a clear night the stars can’t be beat.

We stayed here this last weekend July 1-6th. We decided to try tent camping and left our RV at home. We made the 1 1\2 trip the previous week so we could check the camp site out to see what we would need to bring. The bathrooms in the tent oak section were clean smelled like bleach and the showers had nice not water. There were electric boxes at each tent site we didn't check them didn't have anything with us at the time. So we decided to come back and stay our week.. So we arrived July 1 st. Office staff seems friendly enough. We checked in and drove up to the very top of the mountain to the tent Oak section for our week adventure in the woods. When we picked our site and started to unpack the neighbor campers informed us that the bathrooms are clogged and out of order and locked, and have been since Friday, (no one at the office mentioned this before we drove 300 ft up the mountain. Or when I called to tell them the site we chose). Ok so no bathroom.... I called the office again ( twice in less than 1\2hr.). I asked about the restroom and after much discussion between the office the come back on Line and said that the Plummer was on his was and everything would be fixed in a few hours.. Ok so we set up camp. We went to plug into the electric box and it didn't work! So we called the office for a third time and was told the electric hasn't worked for over 2 years in the tent sites. ( again the office didn't inform us of this when we checked in). So we settled in and watched as the Plummer did arrive and did lots of work with pipes and such. He left we walked down to the rest room and it was still locked and out of order. WTF.....I called the office no answer but it was after 3 pm so they were probably closed..... A few days later a young man in a thousand trails shirt stopped by with a clip board. Ask who we were.... we told him he said we weren't on his list.... I had my red check in receipt on the power pole as instructed to do.... So I he found us... I asked him about the bathrooms. He said they have had problems with them for years.... I ask about the electric. He said once again it hasn't worked for years. I told him I am really disappointed and this is my last time here. HE BASICALLY said he didn't care..... I told him I was giving a bad review he said so....Too bad it is a nice park if things worked as promised.. He said it's corporate and not up to him... He had a thousand trails shirt on he i s corporate.... DO NOT STAY HERE.....They do not care about you... Drove on the hill to the "lake". There was a party of people all hooked up with boats and rafts to the boat dock so no one else could use it had trucks parked on boat ramp blocked to all others all day long..... No one said anything thousand trails people walked by us....Had to see.... said nothing..... pool was limited and they turned away the family at a near by camp to us... Kids couldn't even swim.....bathrooms by pool clogged and no not water in shower.......unkempt park......
