So we have been going to this park a few years now and we decided this year to spend the week of Thanksgiving here. Everything was great till Wednesday when the "REGULARS" starting coming in. There are parking spaces for the over flow and we had been parking correctly in the space so other vehicles could park also. When the "REGULARS" showed up and was asking nicely to park so everyone could have a parking space, they said that they had other people coming and wasn't going to move because they have never had to in all the many many years they have been coming. When we asked the staff to talk to them, they did but nothing was done. When the situation got heated because now we didn't have a spot to park, we asked for a refund for the remaining days we were going to be there. The "REGULARS" were the ones causing the issues with their attitudes and since we didn't want to confront them, we were instructed that if we got a refund then we couldn't ever come back. How is that we weren't the ones making it nasty that we get the banning from the park? I guess unless you have been going there for many years, you don't mean crap. I will not be giving this park any more referrals.

If I could give this -5 stars I would. When my friend and I made reservations in February and paid a $50 deposit each, we were told it had 50 amp service, and more importantly that our rate was $72 per night. When the reservations were made, we told them that we had a 37 5th wheel and our friend had a 35 TT. The quoted rate was the same for both. My friend got an emailed confirmation and I didnt. I called 4 different times to request a confirmation from them and only once did someone answer the phone. They told me they would send itI never got it.
When we arrived, I remarked that the ride up the narrow, curvy mountain road was harrowing and I wish that I had know ahead of time to expect it. The older lady replied that I should have read the confirmation email! I told her I never got it and called 4 times requesting it. She said, well we get busy sometimes. We then commenced paymentmy friend was paying for their site and was charged correctly, including the posted 10% military discount and not charged for their 1 dog. I, on the other hand, was charged $99 for my premium site, no military discount and $2 per dog. When I asked she said it was bc my rig was 40 and I told her it was 37. She then said Oh! I meant 36. When I asked about military/dog charge , she said we dont offer any discounts in peak season and hotels charge more for dogs! I left to find any notes We made when making reservations and took my friends confirmation and the name of person I spoke with back. She informed me that Sue no longer worked there and they have the right to change prices anytime they chose including at time of check in. Whats the point of a reservation??? I told her that I had the right to blast them and let people know how they treat people and do not honor their own policy. About 30 minutes later, the owner, Chris, walks over with a chip on his shoulder telling us that hes going to try to help straighten it out. He proceeds for about 20 minutes patronizing me, my friend and all women bc men know how to control their emotions and not be angry and that he kicks out 30-40 people a year implying that if I didnt tow his line and not be so tough that we were next. He told us hes been to 43 countries as a sculptor and he knows how to deal with people. I should have told him my husbands been to 17 countries serving in the Army and is now 100% disabled because of it, but by all means, that 10% discount that the hag refused me but gave to friend, was not warranted. Having no where else to go, my DH played nice and Chris finally left. When we pulled out to go eat, he was stretched out on table helping.
RE the CG pool closes at 7 pm, we saw 2 different pit bulls (not allowed) and the stench of pot was everywhere! Killed a black widow plugging into electric, park was dirty, unkept, and not worth $29 per night! Avoid at all costs!

The staff is great and helpful. We had a small issue with our cable tv(no fault of theirs) and they came right over and fixed our issue. The place is dog friendly. We had our two dogs. Be ready for no cell or WiFi. We occasionally got 1 bar of cell if we stood in a certain spot.(AT&T) There is WiFi up at the office but it’s inconsistent. Our son was doing his online school and he kept dropping off. But we worked through it. It was a nice short hike to the state park and the train through the redwoods. Fun experience on a real steam locomotive. We would stay here again the next time we are in the Santa Cruz area.

Cottilion which is literally next door and Redwoods RV resort down the street both are arguably better options . Too many good RV resorts.
Pro :
- Pull through sites
- Cable internet - which I did not use
- longer RVs were OK - Cotillion has 38 foot limit
Cons:
- Internet is hit and miss
- A little longer walk (2 mins) - to get to HC Redwoods State Park - a concern if you have to walk with gear . Not otherwise
- No tents - tents were OK in Cotillion
- Poor Camp Wi-Fi and AT&T mobile internet is pretty un-usable
Hosts were friendly in both the places.

Be aware there is no campground WiFi (they do have WiFi at the office) and very little cell coverage due to the tree coverage you will not be able to get satellite TV or in our case Sat internet. There are however a few people near by with Comcast that have the Comcast public WiFi’s enable what worked OK.

WiFi lounge, 65+ cable channels, heated pool, billiard room, ping pong table, play areas, laundry room with new washers/dryers, super clean bathrooms and showers, and extremely nice and helpful staff! Only 15 minutes from the beaches in Santa Cruz , 50 minutes from Monterey and less than 5 miles from a Costco! The office sells things we might have forgotten to bring with us, and they have ice cream, ice, soda and firewood too! Each site has a fire pit and is very peaceful, especially when the train whistles in the forest close by. Lots of hiking, biking, etc. We really love this place and can understand why so many people make this hidden jem their favorite camping spot. Great history here, it's the 1st campground to open 100+ years ago! Still in the same family too. Prideful ownership shows!

Was on vacation and borrowed a trailer from a close friend of mine. Called around to a couple local places here and everywhere was booked. Called Smithwoods and thought to myself I got lucky because someone had called and canceled their reservation boy was I ever wrong. We arrived after about a 3 hour drive and were greeted by the front office staff who was very welcoming. Then we were guided to our camp site by two gentlemen. The guide who was supposed to back us in safely directed us and caused us to hit a tree damaging our trailer. What is the point of having someone direct you if they obviously do not know what they are doing. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE GUIDE. The guide then told the driver of the trailer there was no damage and he didn’t hit anything. I decided to go check for myself because I heard a loud bang. Low and behold there was a dent to our trailer and matching damage to the tree in the same spot. I went to the office thinking someone would do something about it and they took my information down. As I was walking back to my camp site I noticed the guide was there and he was now arguing with the driver of the vehicle raising his voice telling us we were lying and he didn’t back us into the tree. I was trying not to get upset and did not want to waste my breath because he was obviously lying. I asked him to leave our camp site and he refused saying he did not have to leave and he can stay if he wants. He then went on to threaten to make us leave. I finally had enough and went to the front office to ask them to have the guide leave. I then returned and the guide was gone. I began setting up the trailer and un packing. While doing this I realized because of the damage to the trailer my drain hook ups were stuck and I could not get them out. I wen to the office again and let them know obviously the guide caused us to hit the tree and if they didn’t believe the damage to the trailer or the matching damage to the tree they had to believe the fact I was not able to get my hookups out of the bumper. The lady in the office told me she was sorry for the trouble and gave me a loaner drain hookups to use for our stay. Then the office lady told me she was sorry for the incident but there was conflicting statements about what happened. So how do you explain the damage to the tree the damage to my trailer and the fact I can not get the drain hookups out of my bumper which I just put in before leaving the house. Keep in mind this was all in the first 30 minutes or less of arriving at the park. As a result our stay was ruined by these unfortunate events. I say unfortunate because the park was beautiful and our camp site was great. I just could not believe what had transpired with the guide backing us into a tree and then lying about it and making us feel like we did something wrong. I just hope someone reads this review and decides to back them selfs in and not listen to the guide. I wish I had read the reviews prior to coming because this is not the first time this has happened according to the reviews.
