Vault toilet was clean and well kept, and the river nearby was incredibly clear and cool. Some campers who arrived to the site after dusk couldn't find available spots, so it may fill up quickly on hot days. Paved road all the way into the site (!). Definitely bring insect repellent, the mosquitos in mid-June were no joke.

This secluded spot by the river was absolutely incredible. There were 7 of us, tent camping on a cross country road trip and this was by far the best campsite we stayed at. Waking up and jumping in the river in the morning was exhilarating... and so was the bear! The locals said she (teenage bear, dubbed Becky by local children) was a little too comfortable around people. I agree. We were frequently within ten feet of her, and she was not easily scared away. I wouldn’t be surprised if she were euthanized soon, which is a shame. Other than the bear: amazing campsite. Lots of locals in the daytime. Great swimming area. Close to crescent city. Nasty porta potty, but at least there was one. No service.

Passing through and needed a spot to rest. Very secluded gravel lot with "no overnight camping in lot" signs. We didn't unhook and just slid the bedroom slide out. From previous reviews, I believe it's just no setting up and staying a few days in the lot. They camp all over down by the river just through the woods. If you don't like seclusion, I wouldn't stay here. But if you like a little quiet and unknown, jump in with both feet!

Easy to get to. It does have signs all over saying to overnight camping. But there were locals camping in tents by the river and told us that rangers never kick ppl out just tell them not to make fires in the fires season. Such a beautiful spot!

Nice sized parking area for any size rig to fit, and a vault toilet, but we both felt a bit uncomfortable there. River was beautiful but we weren't comfortable leaving our stuff to go explore. Can't quite put our finger on it, but felt like one night with no incidents was enough. Definitely would not leave our camper here unattended.

Stayed here July 24-26, 2018. About 10 miles from Crescent City in the trees and easy access to the Smith River off South Fork road. Its really just a big square gravel parking lot where people park to get to the river. There is plenty of room to turn your big rig around. We parked our Class C with towed jeep easily and was able to determine our own space. There were several campers in tents or just in vehicles, we were the only motorhome. Spaces are not marked and we were able to park wherever we wanted. The area was clean and forest service had checked the place regularly. There are vault toilets that were decent for that type of facility. There are no trash cans so you need to pack out what you brought in. The river access is quick and easy, very little hiking and a great spot to swim. Its decently quiet although on the road but there isn’t much traffic. Super close to Jedediah state park and Crescent City with beautiful scenery thru windy roads. We did not have TMobile cell service while there. It was warm in daytime and cool in the evenings. There were fire rings made from rocks but not allowed this time.

This site would have been a beautiful spot down by the river if not for the trash left behind by careless partiers. The bathroom had trash bags full of empty beer cans, energy drinks and water bottles, its a shame because it is otherwise a nice spot by a beautiful river. Go in the off season and it might be a little better.

We asked the rangers where would be best to dry camp close to the redwoods and they directed us here. It’s a large circular camp site with about 4-5 sites with fire rings. There is a pit toilet as well. We expected to hear a lot of road noise but the road is pretty empty at night so we slept peacefully every night. We enjoyed the trail leading to the water right from our site. I’m sure this site is very busy in the summer but we had it to ourselves in the off season, which our dogs were pretty happy about :) We had zero att cell service and not much solar but I bet you would have more solar power in the summer. It was about 20 mins from the Jedediah Smith State Park. Great spot! Definitely recommend!
