The park and campground offer lots of shady oaks and relatively flat sites. Hiking trail takes you up to scenic points overlooking the campground. Showers and rest rooms are clean. Staff are friendly. Dogs must be on a leash. Can get unbearably hot here in summer months.

Due to it's proximity to the Tecate border crossing, this San Diego County park is popular with RV'ers departing and returning from Mexico. The clean oak covered park has many acres dedicated to family activities, such as playgrounds, picnics, sports, and a nature trail. The campsite amenities include 50 amp electrical, water, a picnic table, and fire pit. And there is a dump station near the ranger station as you depart. Most of the sites can accommodate large rigs, with our 35 ft class A having room to spare.
Our 2 night stay was very quiet and uneventful, no problems with barking dogs as another reviewer stated. We did witness a rare snowfall on the first night, waking up with an inch of fresh white snow which quickly melted once the sun rose.
AT&T cell reception was sluggish but sufficient for web surfing and possibly a Youtube video.
We look forward to returning to Potrero in the future. This park and all of the other San Diego County campgrounds are some of the best parks we've visited. If you enjoy Potrero, I highly recommend the William Hurst campground near Julian.

We stayed here overnight prior to crossing the border to Mexico, which is about 15 minutes away. We had water and electric and there is a dump site in the park. It was near closing time at the office and the rangers said we could pick our site so we did.
We did move from one site to a more level site (not too bad but we were being picky). The sites have good spacing and there are lots of trees in the park.
The town is VERY remote so not very convenient for much that we could tell, that is why this border is one of the least busy ones. There is a gas station that offers diesel in town, somewhat pricy but we've seen worse.
We read that there was no area to park across the border and you have to walk into their office to get your FMM form (tourist visa needed to enter) and pay the fee. The recommendation was to drive your car to the border, park on the U.S. side and walk over to get your paperwork handled. That is exactly what we did then walked back to the U.S. and drove back to the park. Easy, and the next morning we had our paperwork ready to cross the border.

Concur with previous reviews. Beautiful park. Clean. Level. Staff is terrific. Nice hikes in area. Pet friendly. It’s a narrow winding road from both east and west and if you are over 40’ they warn you that you might not make it. We are 30’ Airstream and had no trouble. It’s just very slow. Make sure you stop at the Ranger Station to register as you drive in or the ranger will be very grumpy! No signs for registration and no place to pull a big rig over.
Free dump station.

We went to Campo train museum and rode the train, great access. We also ate at Cafe 94 in Potrero very good.
This is a common stop for those headed to Mexico, we met many rigs headed down the Baja crossing at Tecata only a mile away.
Clean bathrooms, dump station on the way out, we will stay here again.
