What a beautiful place! I had the place almost entirely to myself when I stayed four days in the middle of the week. I saw only one other person the entire time I was there.
I tried five spots and they were all pretty dramatically uneven, and all I have are some lynx levelers, but even so I was able to make it work in the end.
Pretty quiet except for the occasional planes flying over. I know there is a ton of OHV stuff before the campground, but while I was there in the middle of the week I never heard any noise from that. (I can't speak to how noisy it might be on the weekends though.)
The road in is pretty bad and super narrow, but manageable. I really don't know how two vehicles could pass, and thank goodness I didn't have to find out!
The tall grass and wildflowers were beautiful and so much green was such a relief after spending the last couple months in the deserts of Arizona. 💚 And, coming from the deserts of Arizona I LOVED going to sleep and waking up in the clouds. If your build is not made to handle pervasive moisture this might not be the spot for you. Some days were foggy/misty all day and some days cleared up in the morning and were clear until late afternoon. But it was pretty consistent that the clouds would descend in the evening and stay til morning. I was personally enamored with the romantic perception of sleeping in the clouds.
It is only about an hour or two to get into San Diego and to the beach from here. Not great for an every day back and forth, but if you need a break away from things or are just stopping on your way, then the location is very convenient.
And the signal was amazing! With AT&T I can't remember if I was getting 4G or 5G but I know I had 5 full bars and a really strong signal. I could make clear video calls, download videos quickly, and stream media easily.

Arrived here my early Sunday afternoon and I was the only one that ended up camping for the night. There’s a total of 18 sites and some are tent accommodating and some Kennett accommodate larger rugs but none of them are pull through sites. Each site does have a fire ring and there are two clean vault toilets that were stocked as well as recycling cans and a single trashcan on the other side of the bathroom. It was extremely peaceful at night seeing how I was the only one here even with a little bit of oh HV traffic. If that’s your jam, this is supposed to be. Right next to one of the main trails and surrounded by 50+ miles of them. Had good cell service and made it up to the campground just fine but would recommend taking it extremely slow since it’s mainly one lane road and wouldn’t recommend bringing anything larger than a small size trailer/camper behind. Definitely would stay here again. You do need a park pass to stay here for free or you can purchase at a price which is five dollars digitally and they have information on how to do so on the information board at the entrance.

It's not free! You must have a adventure pass $5 per night or $30 per year. You have to get your pass at the local store first or it's $100 fine. I searched free camping, got here and was very disappointed that I trusted this site and didn't do due diligence. $5 is awesome so I stayed. The road is really hairy just FYI. One lane, wind... more
