We have been traveling through Texas and staying at state parks that have been spectacular. We chose this campground because it was on the beach and the price was right. The photos of the campground show the nicer part of the park which are the tent sites for $20/night & premium sites $50/night. It does not show the $25/night which are basically in a broken up pavement lot that needs to be ripped up and redone. The old bathroom/laundry area is permanently closed, but still shows on the website map.
I saw a review from a year ago saying that the park has received 1.75 million to upgrade the park, they certainly have not put any money into this part of the park.
Only some of the $25/night sites in the so called parking lot are operational because the water and electric has been taken out.
We have only spent one night, but are here for a week. We can not change our mind and move to another campground because this park has a no refund policy - go figure.
The positives are that the tent and premium sites look really nice. Kind of funny when you envy a $20/night tent site is much nicer than the $25/night site. The showers and bathrooms look nice. My husband had a shower in the late evening when no one else had been there and he said the water was warm at best.
They have laundry facilities for $2/load, which I think is a bit high, so we will be looking for a laundry mat.
The campground is on the beach and it is a long beach you can walk and drive on. There is a washroom and outdoor showers on the beach open between 8am - 3pm. As an alternative there are outhouses after those hours.
The pier and restaurant were destroyed during a hurricane. Apparently the park will rebuild at some point.
We will make the best of our stay while here and enjoy the area.
I would recommend that the county update their site and show pictures of this area for folks like us so that people are not deceived and get stuck without a refund. We are disappointed for sure.

This was an okay stay as far as the actual campground goes. In hindsight I should have paid for the premium location. But damn, it was so close to the beach so who cares! I could hear the waves at night and could spend the day on the sand. The bathrooms were fairly clean, showers were private and water was hot.

50/30 amp full hookup for $50 per night, 30 amp and water hook up for $25. Nice showers. The old restrooms in the asphalt area closed but that is part of the rebuild.
Also have tent camping with water and electric hookup.
Does it have its work in progress yes, but it also has its relaxing and de-stressing ability. Would definitely stay here again.
Oh yeah, also has gated entry with passcode, and wifi.

Great Park the sights are big will lots of concrete pads. The office hours run until 10:30pm which is convenient and beach access is at the park. At the moment the park has a 3 night maximum but that might be changed.

A block from the beach, park is not half full but staff did not let us know that there were options for either 30 or 50 amps and gave us the 50 amps for double the price… not really fair as we do not need nor requested 50 amps. also limited to 3 days, which is unfortunate

I stay in an suv camper so my review is with that in mind mostly. It was December, 2022. Wind was 20-30 mph and temps were 50-60 deg F. I stayed in a tent spot near the bathhouse in the newer section. It was a very nice, level spot with electric, water, and picnic table. There are no trees, no poles, no coverings, so tents and tarps will have to be secured with very strong stakes and poles. If you need a better scenario for securing tarps with less wind, I’d suggest the older part that are closer to the dunes and they have covered picnic tables. BUT! The older pavement is not the greatest - plenty of potholes. Me, personally, prefer potholes over wind. The bathrooms and showers were very clean. The location is great - right next to the beach. It is gated and wifi is included. Staff are friendly. It was priced very reasonably! I was in site F. Shower water was nice and hot with great pressure. Bathrooms were flush toilets. Being December, it was not crowded. I played at PINS but stayed at balli.

The annual pass which runs January to January is $12.00 and available at the pavilion at Padre Bali as well as local convenience stores. This enables you to legally stay in place for 3 nights in 21 days. The pass is honored on various beaches from north of Port Aransas to the National Seashore area. State and National parks are separate, the pass doesn't apply. Malaquite Campground has a dump station and potable water.

I was very happy with the $25 lot, only complaint would be that the pavement is old and as a result, walking around barefoot isn’t very comfortable. But still. I’ve paid more for a tent site that was further from the beach.
