Question about Nomad View Dispersed Camping

camper-640390 asked on 3/30/2022

Does the roads have a lot of ruts? Our pull behind is fairly low? Also has this place ever been packed out where you can’t find a space?

When we went in 2020 there were many ruts, not sure if they fix the ruts yearly. You may not be able to find a spot over looking the Badland lands, it's a big open area, so there should be spaces.

We were there July 1, 2019the dirt path wasn't bad upon arrival, but on July 3rd it rained about 2 inches in 3 hours ( I had forgotten my windows were OPEN on my truck ) that made the path very slick and muddy. We had a great time and plan to go back soon.

I've been there twice. Both times the road, well not a road, more like ruts in a wet fields. Lots of grey/black tank fittings on the ground from being torn off. The wind is so bad you can't be outside for long and if you don't hold on your door will be ripped off the hinges. Not a nice place. Go someplace else. Not much in the town either. No dump, no water, no trash but plenty of booze!!!

It's rough, starting with the entrance. There was a big hole right at the edge of the cattle guard. There is every kind of vehicle out there so I'm sure you can make it with caution. It's really a one lane path so if some ones coming out wait for them if you can. I think you can always find a place. We planed our stay to arrive on Wednesday at 11:00 am. That worked great for us on that day. Nomad is a great place be.

I was there June of 2021. There were plenty of sites available for the five days I was there. Even on the weekend. Yes there are a few spots where there are ruts but very minimal. People has small cars with very little ground clearance so another way to see it’s not bad. Great disperses site. I recommend it to everyone.

Road conditions will be changing, I'd recommend walking it or test driving it first. I had my wife take our tow vehicle up until we got there so we didn't meet anyone on the way up. As far as spots go, there are more campsites down the road, It's nearly unlimited if you don't need the instagram worthy spots near the edge.

I can't imagine not being able to find a place though you might not get exactly where you want. As for ruts you may hit bottom but if you drive slowly enough you should be fine getting out to the edge where the going is easier. Mud is more of a problem as you'll slip and slide.
