We stayed here for 1 night during our spring break trip. Coming in from the south on hwy 16 was beautiful with a bunch of waterfalls coming in to the campground. The campground was empty just us and the seasonal campground workers. They are open year round but the camp can get flooded it is situated between two damns. Let’s just say it’s good thing I have 4wd while turning around it got pretty slick. There is train tracks across the river with some long coal trains that use them, it was pretty cool to watch them. There are semi’s that go up and down Hwy 16 so watch out for them. Overall for one night with full hook ups at 20$ I cant complain and I would stay again.
Bubba would stay here again

This campground's greatest asset and biggest drawback is its location. The campground is located right next to the New River in Gauley Bridge, West Virginia, so it's fantastic for folks looking to get away and enjoy the river. But in order to get to it, you need to drive along very steep, winding mountain roads. It is not for the inexperienced big rig driver. Additionally, once you're there, the big, beautiful mountains that provide such stunning scenery create all kinds of havoc for your internet connectivity.
There are a handful of sites that are laid out parallel to the river. We had one of these sites so we had no one next to us. Most of the rest of the sites are back in sites, and those are more typical of commercial campgrounds. Also, be aware, only certain sites have full hook ups and 50 amp service.
Getting to the campground in a large motorhome took serious skill because of the twisty mountain roads and, once we got to the campground, the turn into the driveway was extremely tight. The sites themselves were well maintained and we could access ours, but the place was very sparsely populated when we visited. If it was the height of the season, I expect it could be a bit more difficult. I would hesitate to recommend this place to owners of big rigs.
This was also the worst internet situation we've had since we've been on the road. We had almost no signal at all on our Verizon hot spot, and the campground's wifi was spotty, at best (per the usual). If you need internet access to do your job or for whatever else, I would strongly caution against staying here.
All in all, while we loved the views here and the customer service was friendly, the issues with connectivity and the difficulty in getting to and from the campground in a large motorhome make it unlikely we'll stay here again. If you have a smaller rig and don't require consistent internet, it's a great campground.

The family-run park is sandwiched between US 60 (which is a little two lane road that winds through the mountains, but still a bit traffic-y) and the New River. The walls of the gorge rise up above either side of the campground, large sandstone cliffs and beautiful trees everywhere. It was autumn while we stayed, and the sweetgum and silver and red maples were extraordinarily vibrant.
You pay extra for a riverside spot, but the park was nearly empty so our spot away from the river had a great view. 20 minutes along a very beautiful road to Fayetteville and the National Park's Visitor Center. Clean bathrooms, "singles" in that you get to close and lock the door and have a shower and toilet all to yourself. A small store that sells the usual suspects: sewer hoses, light bulbs, propane for lanterns, etc. They've also got a propane tank for refilling your rig. Wood is a $1 / piece.
For some reason, there's a small shopping plaza right next door, a grocery store, a bar, and a dollar store. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere so how this stays in business is anyone's guess, but it was very convenient.
The New River Gorge area is absolutely spectacular and this park provides a beautiful location central to Hawks Nest State Park, a ton of trails and waterfalls, river access and Fayetteville. I imagine this is where we'll stay any time we come back to the area.
Oh and they had built a haunted house which was maybe a little cheesy but very fun for our 13 year old, and the Lady and I had a good time there, too.
Nathan @ Wand'rly would stay here again
