Siri said it was 6.2 miles from our camps to highway 131. It’s rough in sections, and had so big washouts from recent torrential rains. The road had been graded since, but left some ruts and rocks in some sections. If you don’t know how to slow down, this will me a miserable ride. Almost 30 minutes coming out to the highway. The payoff is amazing views and few other campers. A few mosquitoes and lots of biting flies in the evening. I’d slowly crawl up this hill again, but watch the weather, you might be cut off in a monsoon.

“Gorgeous views, but a long way down sometimes washboard road”

If it weren't about 5 miles in (?) on sometimes washboard road, I would have given this 5 stars.
The coordinates shown for this spot are at around 8000'. Great views, spot on hill up past the spot listed on left has great Verizon. I listed three bars, but I think it could have been four bars. It was FAST, either way. The spot up the hill and on the left up a ways from the listed spot was at at 8700'. Stellar views.
The photo I included of a little calf, (who I 'rescued' by allowing him access back to his mother😁) is not the best, but where my truck is parked in the background is a "real" spot, so you get a little tincture of what the view looks like.
The other two photos that have my rig in them are of me in the 'illegal' spot, before I got asked to move. Included them just so you get an idea of what the area looks like.
Yes, cows roam here. There are a few spots to be had on this road, but not many.
The VERY first place that looks like a spot not very far in on the left, right after you get off of Hwy 131 is NOT a public land spot. It's private land and you will be asked to move. (I know from personal experience. There's a guy that watches the ranch it's on. People try to park there all the time, and he boots them. Lives right where he can see the spot)
You CAN park RIGHT AT the entrance where there's a little parking spot for a trailhead, and the BLM sign is right there. Not ideal, and very lumpy, but if you need a spot while traveling through, it's something, and it's permitted.
The road isn't great, and it's long. It gets quite "washboardy" in spots. Getting in with any kind of rig you give any kind of care for will take quite some time. But once you are up there, if you are looking for views and peace and quiet, you will be rewarded.
Any class A will be fine getting up this road. There were two of them parked where the coordinates are listed for this camping spot.
There's a boring spot not too far into this road (no view at all, RIGHT on the road with vehicles passing by pretty quickly) way before the coordinates listed here... not good Verizon, either. Didn't test ATT.
If you keep going down Muddy Creek road, it eventually splits off into other dirt roads and you can drive off-road all the way to Vail. There are a few more camping sites on the way, but zero cell service. It's a gorgeous drive. Because, Colorado Rockies. : D
Rv Chickadee would stay here again
