We stayed 2 nights to explore the area: Saranac Lake & Lake Placid. I see other reviewers were not satisfied with the bathrooms but we found them to be spotless & clean. Plus each separate restroom had a private shower. Our site was level. The campground was quiet. We had a good nights sleep.

Mike and Cheryl here. We have a 44 foot Class A RV. Here is my review of the campground at Lake Placid / Whiteface KOA. Getting to the campground was no problem. All roads good. The roads in the campground are mostly gravel and dirt. They need to be smoothed out. The roads create a lot of dust when used. The trees are trimmed OK. The campground office was open and everyone was friendly. We were escorted to the site. They have a large camp store. Large parking area is provided while checking in. The road signage to our site was good. Sites have fire pits and they sell firewood. Our site was M26, a pull thru site with a picnic table. The campground has mostly shaded sites which shed tree debris all over your motorhome. Our site was not level. We had to use a whole set of wheel blocks. The site was dry. The site was gravel, but most sites are dirt. The campground has no seasonal folks. The bathhouse was poor. Laundry was OK. There was a small pool but it was not very inviting. There was a game room, but you have to pay for everything like pool, air hockey, fuss ball. There is no workout fitness room. There is no restaurant on site, but the campground is close to town. Cable TV service is available and good. Wifi was available but very very poor. No road noise to note.
Our site was narrow and our awning hit the tree branches. Our site looked right into the bathhouse. We had to shut our front visor so we did not see everyone using it.
Here is the bad. Roads are rough and dusty. Site was narrow, not level and faced the bathhouse. Wifi was very very poor. Cell service (Verizon) was bad. Tree debris was terrible. Maybe sites M27, D4, D5, D6, C4 & C5 would be good. I may come back, but not during springtime (early June). Dream Big, Travel Far, Live Well...

It is a great location to visit Whiteface Mountain, Lake Placid, and Plattsburgh.

The sites here were super tight, the pool was nothing special and the mini golf was underwater in sections. (still had to pay to play, though). Kicker was that we called on the way because we were going to arrive around 2pm - only after realizing while in route that this particular campground had a 3PM check in time (as opposed to every other campground that we've stayed at with a 1pm check in for RV/tent sites) and were promptly told that we would have to pay a $25 fee for early check in (ONE HOUR EARLY). Seriously? With no other option b/c we we had nowhere to go to wait it out, we paid the ridiculous fee. Upon arrival, we found LOTS of empty sites, not sure what the early check in fee was all about - not like we were putting anyone out with having to rush to clear a site. Sewer pipes had no threads, so had to secure the hose with rocks. Not what I expected, but we were there to see Lake Placid and the surrounding area, so it was a place to park.

The resort is large with a plenty of activities for the kids and trails on the property. Our site (row F) was a spacious pull thru with water and 30 amp hookups and relatively level. In the area that we were assigned, the sites are dirt and separated by trees with no undergrowth so we didn’t feel that it was private enough from adjoining sites. Got the feeling that the sites were overused from many campers. To the camp hosts credit, no trash lying about, fire ring was clean. There were other partial hookup sites that were more private so ask when booking. WiFi was very weak and barely worked. Better by the office. Bathroom were a little tired but clean in the early part of the day. Plenty of hot water in the shower. We stayed midweek in July, so it wasn’t too crowded. I can see weekends really filling up. Would return if able to book a different site.

This is one of the nicer KOAs we have been to. We had some larger items shipped there and they were more than happy to accommodate. The park is tree-lined, which makes it quite nice. However, those same trees can make it difficult to access your site. A worker had to help us navigate some trees and give us tips for getting into our site. Once we were in, it was fine. The summit of Whiteface Mountain and the gondola ride up Little Whiteface Mountain are a must do. Also, the olympic facilities (ski jumping, bobsled, ice skating) are worth a visit. We watched the women's USA hockey team practice, which was great.
If you are driving a fifth wheel or RV, be sure to check clearances since there is a low clearance bridge nearby.

If yo uare coming here from I-87 (Adirondack Northway) and pulling a camper, it can be better to come from the in from Exit 34, rather than 30. Exit 34 has some steep grades and tight switchbacks. Totally passable towing a camper, but if there is a possibility of icy conditions, exit 34 is less steep.
Minutes from Whiteface mountain and 20 minutes to Lake Placid, in the summer they offer hay rides and have a swimming pool and ice cream shack. The rear of the campground has river access for fishing .. .etc .... wonderful place
Internet coverage can be spotty. you're in the mountains ... get out and hike

The location is about 20 minutes to Lake Placid and quite a long ways off the interstate. We came in through Plattsburgh headed south on 87 and took 9N to 86. The campground is heavily wooded and quiet. Lots of walking opportunities. A great dog walk and dog park. Good cable and strong 50 amp FHU.
Bathrooms were single rooms with showers and clean.
The area is beautiful with lots of hiking and outdoor activities.
For shopping, you'll have to head into Lake Placid for groceries or whatever you need. There's not much by the campground.
Wifi was typical crappy campground speeds at about 1-2d/l.
For cell hotspots, you will need your booster. - ATT unboosted was bad (1-2d/l) but boosted with Weboost we got 11d/l speeds and 2.63 u/l. Verizon was not good at 1.29 d/l with booster. We used the ATT hotspot all week and it was reliable and maintained good speeds.
The site we were in was advertised as a pull thru but this was not the typical KOA quality. Roads were tight and dirt and very rutted. The site was not a pull thru it was a pull in and back out because you could not make that turn if you pulled through. The site was not level, took quite a bit of negotiating to an odd angle to get fairly level. These are things I expect for a KOA at $55 night. Minimum is level easy to navigate site.
