I read reviews of this campground and gone to do some recon ahead of time, so we were prepared with leveling boards and blocks, and extension cords. Some campers really had a hard time situating their camper with their power hook up, fire ring, trees, etc.
Our group of sites was pretty well shaded. Quiet campground. Clean bathhouse. Not much cell reception in campground area for AT&T but reception was better on the south end of the park by the swimming beach/ day use area.

The nightly rate is deceptive because it doesn't include the $18/day state park fees (out of state rates). So, this is really a $38/night dry camping spot with 30amp/15amp shared electric (bring an extension cord). The entire camp is on a slight slope towards the lake so you'll need leveling blocks in addition to your jacks. This is a typical, crowded, state park but it's clean and right on the lake. The sites are all grass 'areas' vs pads. So you can place your rig in the site area any way you want. You'll need to plan out where your electric access is and weigh that against your view and ability to level. Sites share electric at the back and are spaced tail to tail. Sites are generous and I was able to park my 38ft class A at an angle with no problems. Also, you're just feet off of a highway that apparently the locals like to drive on with loud vehicles and honk (presumably to annoy campers??).
The advantage to this place is the lake view, beach, and proximity to all of the excellent hiking, water falls, and Lake Superior in this area of the UP. I would stay again despite the challenges. I'm definitely more of a wide-open space lover, so my views of state campgrounds are never as great as some of the BLM and National Park lands out west. So, take that into consideration.

The site sloped toward the lake quite a bit so probably not great for big RVs. Bathrooms are clean and the ranger was super friendly.

Nice sized lots. Quiet. Beautiful sunrise. Lots on lake shore are slopes toward the lake. It was challenging to get the trailer level, so could have used more blocks. Only one dump station, so it is lined up at check out time. The Mallard ducks swimming along the shore are friendly.

Parks is clean. Sites are very spacious, shaded, and not too canted. There are 20 right on the water. There is a kayak and boat launch. A beach is between the campground and the launch. No water at the sites (4 stars.) Dumpsite with potable water has easy access. We had decent ATT cell service but the cell tower was in EDT time (and so were our phones) and the campground was in CDT. This wouldn't have been a problem except our running watches were bi-polar and kept going back and forth. :-) Exercisers: We could not run on the nature trail. So we ran our 5 miles in the park 3 laps and a little made 5 miles. Kayaking can be on the lake, or on either of the great lakes which were about 40 minutes north or south. The hiking in Porcupine State Park is quite varied. We saw bikers on some of the roads. The roads are wide, but the speed limit is 65 so be careful. The ranger and camp host were quite helpful in helping us determine what to do. The camp while were there was very quiet.

We hiked the trail and it was pretty nice. Needed some trail maintenance at the beginning of the hike. Grass and weeds were crowding the trail making it narrow. It was pretty bad for a while at the beginning but for the most part it was okay. We came in June and the mosquitos were pretty bad on the trail.

My family recently camped at Lake Gogebic State Park. We had followed the firewood guidelines found in our campground registration paperwork. Upon entering the park, the student worker inspected our firewood and took some of it over to the Park Ranger. The Park Ranger issued us a Civil Infraction for bringing ash firewood into the park. When I showed him our camping registration paperwork (which DOES NOT state anything about bringing ask into the park) he stated that there was a sign by the road. The FIREWOOD section in our paperwork, in the campground brochure and the website make no mention of this rule. I am truly perplexed why they don't want to inform Upper Peninsula families about these rules. A $190 ticket is a huge deal to our family. We are good people and will follow the rules… we just need to know them! It definitely left me with a very shady impression of what is going on there and I would urge you to save your hard earned money and stay somewhere else. This fine was a significant hit to my family and we will never return to this campground or County. I would suggest you do the same.
