The Jessup River Roadside Campsites are part of the Jessup River Wild Forest and the Perkins Clearing Tract. Both areas are managed by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Perkins Clearing is an active logging area. Watch out for log trucks. There are 15 campsites along Perkins Clearing Trail, Old Military, and Jessup River Road. Some sites are huge. Others are only suitable for tent camping. Cell service is spotty along the dirt roads. There is good service where they intersect NY Route 30. I spent three nights at site 14A. It was big enough for three more trucks and toy haulers. Ten minutes to Speculator. Groceries at Charlie John’s. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner at King of the Frosties.

The sites don’t have out houses and are not the most level but I made due. Ranger stopped Friday morning as part of her rounds. Saw another as I was taking out Friday afternoon. There were log trucks in and out Thursday and Friday so be careful on that road! By Friday all sites appeared to be occupied, including the day use sites. Cell service was pretty bad even tho I had some 3g, even LTE a mile down he road but it didn’t work well. The loons and the ducks were entertaining. Overall a pleasant get away!!

There wasn’t service at the sites I checked out, but there was a little spot in the entrance with a blip of service, there’s a little sign there, but there’s also service down the road along Route 30.
