Can’t beat $20 / night for a full hook up. We were passing through town, it was easy to get in and out. Quiet. The water pressure was great. You can pick your own site, we parked away from everyone. Went to sleep in an empty parking lot and woke up surrounded by cars which I wasn’t expecting. Workers in the area use it in the daytime. They were just a few days away from shutting off the water so not sure their exact season. Would stay again when passing through the area.

We came in on a Sunday when the campground office was supposed to be closed, but there was someone working in the office. He took us in his golf cart to show us a few sites with sewer hookups that we could choose from. The furthest west lane in lot A had sewer hookups, the D lane, and another lane in B. Many of those near the north were not level sites though, so we opted for A04 which is on gravel.
We had full hookups on that row and shared the area with only one other trailer the whole time we were there. I can see how during fair time this place would be near impossible to be able to park our big rig, but with double spacing during the off time, it was pleasant.
We had a great rate and it was a good location to visit Springfield. I went to check on the check out time and was told it was 9pm. He said it was so late for those who liked to visit the fairgrounds and barns until late.
There was a bathhouse up by the office (we did not use it).
Starlink came in at around 31 down and 5 up. Verizon on the phone was 4 bars (135/13). On the cell antenna Verizon was at 5 bars (90/27) and AT&T was also at 5 bars (25/25). The signal was strong, but the speeds were slow in the evening.

I was looking for a full hookup site and he knew where some where but they were full and said there’s some over there I think just go look. We ended up just taking a W/E site which was fine. It’s cheap and gets the job done. Okay cell service too.

We arrived at lunch time and picked a site in the B area, it was an asphalt parking lot with 50 amp and water. Site was level and we were close to all the Abraham Lincoln historic sites, which was great. Also, was lucky enough to see the Palomino World Championship going on at the fair grounds.

Stopped for just one night but wish it was more. So much to see in Springfield. Friendly folks at the campground let us choose our spot so we didn’t have to unhook. Nice visitors guide. State Capitol, Lincoln historical home, museum and burial site. We wish we were staying longer! And Route 66!

Super friendly family that manages the grounds. This place is massive and so cool to explore the buildings in the fair grounds. It was easy to call and reserve.

Security checked us in and was very nice and helpful. We did a day trip to see the capitol, the Lincoln Museum and burial site. Plenty of room for our slides and cars. We normally do not book a first come first serve campground, but felt pretty good with over 300 spots available.

This is a nice campground with full hookup in the middle of the state fairgrounds. The host is very friendly and gave us a golf cart ride around the fairgrounds and took us to the farmers market. Site was a bit dirty, however the state fair had just ended. The sites are all on pavement, parking lot style.

We stopped for a quick 1 night stay. The place is OK. Since we have a big rig, we opted to park on the blacktop parking area to get 50 amp power.
The power is the only issue we have with the place. We plugged in our power protector and it registered an "open ground". An open ground can cause a hot skin condition (touch your RV and get shocked). Nope, not going to have that. Our power protector did what it should, protected us and wouldn't feed power to the coach. We managed to drag our cord from our site (#21) to the empty neighboring site (#20) and things were fine. We then called the camp host to tell him of the issue and he said, "Oh, they all do that. The electrician says it's OK". What? My electrical engineer husband disagrees. He suspects the contacts in the plugs are just dirty and need to be cleaned. Someone is being negligent (I doubt it's the camp host, he's just repeating what he was told). So be aware.
If the campground office is open and the camp host is not around, call security. They will find him for you.
If you call the campground office number, there is a very good, very detailed message about when the campground is full (typically during HUGE events) and when tents are allowed. That message was appreciated.
We would stay here again, but would definitely test the power before we settled on a site.

The only thing I had a real gripe about was the noise from the freeway nearby. We had a tent and it was very noisy. The bathrooms were sufficient. Some of the sites were flat and some weren't. There were plenty to choose from when we visited at the end of June 2022. Overall, it wasn't a bad overnight spot for the price.
