Passing through in a camping road trip west and then up the coast. A beautiful park, but make reservations or it may ruin an enjoyable experience. I called the Josephine County phone # ahead to check if there was availability, and there were 7 to 9 free RV spots available, so I figured it was worth a risk. When I arrived, the Camp Host "May" asked if I had reservations, and when I said no, it felt as though she wanted me to leave. She stated numerous times, this is a reservation-only park, contrary to what the Josephine County Park specialist shared on the phone. She also wanted to stick me on site 17, far away from the river while there were three perfectly open sites close to the river. It was very strange for me to have to ask to see a map and tell them I will choose my own spot. Her husband Kevin was much more accommodating and kind.
At 8am the next morning they began mowing the grass. It was so quiet and peaceful prior to that. Maybe bc it's so hot during the afternoon?
I would likely not stay here again due to the camp hosts/mowing. Three bars in cell phone. River is gorgeous.

We are a 37’ Allegro Bus and tow a Chevy Equinox. We had previously stayed here for 2 nights and had a great experience so we decided to spend a night on our way to Olympia. Since it was an overnight stay we were not looking to disconnect. It had rained for sometime before we had arrived and the grounds were saturated. The road leading to our spot was quite narrow and while we take care to keep our bus on paved areas it is not always possible considering our width and length. While pulling in, our wheels ended up a tire width onto the grass which due to the narrowness of the road was unavoidable . We parked and set up only to have a park staff member come over and start screaming at us as to how we were going to have to pay for damaging the lawn. What we say, and she continues on,even as we explain to her that another staff member guided us into our spot. We ended up calling the county office to share our concerns and a park ranger drove over and said all was well. The moral to our story is that you shouldn’t attempt to stay here unless you are substantially smaller and only then if the grounds are bone dry. Thanks for listening. Needless to say it made for a very unpleasant stay and we wont be going back.

Site 5 is what we would highly recommend! Back into it and get level with your blocks (it's sloped a bit but nothing crazy) then enjoy the view of the large grassy area and the Rogue River right from your front door!
In early October the days were still warm enough we could launch our paddle boards right from the campground and enjoy the peace and quiet of this amazing area.
Campground hosts were very accommodating and live there full time in a home on site.
The road in is paved and narrow in a few spots with some lower hanging tree branches that bigger rigs may need to negotiate but for our size this was perfect.

We’ll kept lawn with hot showers free for campers. Next to day use fee area and right by the river. Bumper time for blackberry picking. Wish I’d discovered the trail and been able to explore it- only found when getting the kids to sleep in the stroller on the last night. It’s at the end of the road to the right.

Nice little campground. Sites are spaced out. Right next to the Rogue river in a fairly calm wide spot. Some sandy beach and a raft launch ramp. No designated swim area but grandkids had fun splashing in the river. A small nearby store and Grants Pass is minutes away.

Also found a pretty trail in the woods across the road for running and lunchtime walks. Nothing exciting but pretty enough. Campground is blissfully quiet. The only downside is our cell booster would not talk with the local AT&T tower. We were able to work with AT&T hotspots on our phones just fine, including video calls but the booster couldn’t connect. Only place we’ve had this problem.

The next day there was an opening on site 12, a tent site that was quiet and shady and private. Sweet! Each day she or her husband let me know if I could keep staying depending on reservations. They were so kind and the place is clean and well cared for. Right on the Rogue. All three hosts were incredibly kind!! Great place. Went for one night and ended up staying 4!
(Gave site quality 4 stars only because of how basic and dusty.) There is a picnic table at each site and trash and water available.centrally throughout. Firewood for sale for 5 bucks. Fire ring in each. Great place.
Was able to work from my phone the entire stay!
