Overall Rating
We stayed for a few nights and checked out the ADA trail that leads to a great waterfall. There is tons of hiking around there and a very mellow and shallow river to play in. On 2 of the 3 days there were fighter jets that flew over very low, but it was really cool to see that! Sites are pretty private too

We stayed here for two nights and loved it. It’s primitive - no cell service, no running water, just a few sites. But all sites are on river and most have water access. Hike up to waterfall is short and really beautiful.

We think this is the nicest Forest Service campground on the Chewuch River. The sites are quite spacious and although the Forest Service's website says the maximum trailer length is 18' I bet you could get something a bit larger in if you were careful in picking your spot. We think this is the nicest Forest Service campground on the Chewuch River. The sites are quite spacious and although the Forest Service's website says the maximum trailer length is 18' I bet you could get something a bit larger in if you were careful in picking your spot. Midweek in May there were only a couple of other occupied sites and we were able to score a beautiful campsite right along the river. This is your typical fairly primitive Forest Service campground, but there are two vault toilets and water is available from a centrally located old fashioned hand pump.
The campground is named for the pretty little waterfall across the road. It's accessible via a paved 1/4 mile trail and certainly worth the stroll to see it after dinner.
From Winthrop, drive north on West Chewuch Road (which turns into forest road #51) for about eleven miles. The entire route is paved. The campground is on your right.
