We came here specifically because other people said there was ATT reception, but there is NOT. We received a stray text every once in awhile, walking around the campground, but it’s not useful. All that to say, it’s awesome as an “off the grid” place near the north side of Yellowstone, but it’s not a good option if you require AT&T reception.
There were full bars 10 minutes down the mountain in Gardiner.

We decided to drive through anyway and found 2 empty sites. Another camper said they just got there 5 minutes prior to us and also found a site. Yesterday & again today we noticed empty sites in the afternoon despite the full sign being out front. Would recommend driving through campground to verify actually full. We are in site 16 ( one of the sites with corrals). Campground fee is $7/night. There is a sign stating there is a proposal to increase to $15/night in 2021. Site is on gravel, able to level. We did find food in our fire pit when got here. In addition, there was human waste and toilet paper behind our site. Great access to the north entrance on Yellowstone. Did see Elk walking through the campground one evening.

We did not stay because it was full, but the road getting up there was steep and the washboard road was for real! Doable but the signs says put in four wheel drive which we did!

Great location right out the back door of Yellowstone NP on a top of a hill along a gravel road. Two vault bathrooms that were fairly clean and stocked with TP. The bugs were kind of bad but only during the day, the elk roam the area and the this place fills up quick.

Don't let Google maps fool you, this isn't a hard place to get to. It's on a gravel road with a 6-8% grade going up about 2 miles. It's wide enough for two vehicles to pass and isn't bad if it's raining. There is a sign that asks to put your vehicle into 4WD prior to ascending so they can reduce the washboard effect on the road. We had absolutely no issues getting our 42' 5th wheel up to this location. We had several friends with 5th wheels, 32' and 28' class C, and one class A get up without issue as well.
The campground is snug, but the sites are huge. We were able to get a couple campers in several of the sites while still following the 3 car limit. There are a couple horse camping sites up top with stock areas. Camping here will cost you about $7/night and is well worth it.
There is a vault toilet onsite, but no water. Each site has a campfire ring, but they don't sell wood. There are bear boxes at each site for storing food items if you choose to tent camp.
This is an excellent location to get into northern Yellowstone. It's about 30 minutes from the Mammoth Hot Springs. There are a lot of great places to eat in Gardiner which is about 10 minutes away. There's also a lot of outdoor activity offerings in Gardiner. There was good Verizon and ATT coverage. We were able to watch Netflix, Face-time, and have video calls for work.

Only $7/night, 5 minutes from north Yellowstone entrance! Super nice camp host, big spots and there were elk roaming through the campsite every morning - which I thought was super cool. Vault toilets only amenity and no ATT service.

Great spot away from it all, yet so close. Nice and quiet, yet a 20 minute drive to Mammoth visitors center. Great Verizon 30/10, AT&T might be had with boosting.

Madison and Mammoth were the only campgrounds open before May 17 in park and filled before noon. You can see Mammoth from the road and it was not only full but looked like a sardine tin. This is a lovely alternative campground and we ended up staying here our whole visit, which was shortened by rain. Road up is very steep but definitely doable. Designated sites without pads, you just drive onto the grass. Creek running by, buffalo in campground every night. Peaceful and quiet. Heavily used, we stopped about 2pm the first night and there were lots of people coming in looking for a site in the early evening, with no luck. Better than staying in the park actually. We will camp here again when we return to Yellowstone. No cell service at all, but there isn’t any to speak of in Yellowstone either.
