Fantastic park with plenty of room. Great little old town with good restaurants and shops. Ride your bike on many trails all around the park. Better to stay in the upper loops. We would stay here again.

sites are really close together. it was nice to have a hot shower and do dishes in their facilities, even though they could have been cleaner. located close to conveniences like gas stations, an rv shop, etc.

Campsites were closer than what I’d have liked however, for our 1 night stay that wasn’t that bog of a deal. Our campsite (64) had unobstructed views!

Great, clean state park with power and water. Perfect for our Maiden Voyage with the new trailer. Lots of little hiking trails around, lake and super close to stores if you forgot or need anything. Heard there is a lot of wineries and breweries close by when not closed by COVID.

Very very crowded oark, sites are like right next to eachother. you go out of your trailer 10 people stare at you from like 6 feet... This State park also has nothing to offer view-wise.
Only positive thing and that is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1, is the pull through sites.

We spent 3 nights here, using our camp spot as a "command center" for exploring the area around Cottonwood (including Sedona, Jerome, Montezuma's Castle, Tuzigoot, etc. etc.) We kept busy and were really not "home" during many daylight hours, but it was a great base to return to each evening. Dead Horse Ranch State Park has A LOT of camping spots, and can accomodate pretty much any vehicle. We were in a pull through site (31) that we really liked. The only surprise was that our nicely blacktopped spot was not very level...we had to put two blocks under the front passenger tire and one under the rear passenger tire. Hardly the end of the world though.
One night we were there was Monday night, and folks were outside enjoying grilling and watching the game. But nothing ever got anything close to rowdy. It was a very quiet campground, and even though every site was full, and honestly, the space between sites is only about average, we never felt squeezed in or encroached upon.
Every site has a picnic table and a grill. The electric and water hookups were fine (water pressure not the best I've ever had, but more than okay). Because it's such a busy place for camping, the two dump stations on the way out of the park DO sometimes have a wait. And one of them doesn't have access to water, which is tough when you prefer to also backflush your black tank.
The park itself is lovely, but unless you like fishing, probably won't hold you there too long. It's more as a quiet, inexpensive pretty place to stay rather than a destination in and of itself. We walked around a couple of lagoons and enjoyed some bird activity...but I would say don't think of this place as the be-all, end-all of your trip. But you're 30ish minutes to Sedona, 20ish minutes to Jerome, etc. We would certainly stay here again.

I really don’t want to reveal this hidden gem but we’ve already booked our next stay, so I will be honest and highly recommend it. Camping areas are very well designed and maintained. We were in Cooper’s Hawk loop site 104. Sites are large with a picnic table, fire pit, natural vegetation and paved parking pad. Sites have water and electric and there is a dump station at the park entrance/exit. We had no problem backing in or getting level. The interior roads are paved, smooth, wide and easy to navigate with a big rig. There are some trees but not every site has them. No road noise. No WiFi but we had good T-mobile signal. There are always workers raking and doing general cleanup. Red-Tail Hawk Loop was similar to our loop with mostly large sites. Quail Loop seemed to us to be better suited to smaller rigs since it has quite a few shorter sites and some with height restrictions due to tree branches. Length and height restrictions are listed on the booking site so choose carefully. The state park is beautiful and has much to offer in terms of walking, hiking, fishing, biking, birding, and horseback riding. It’s close to many tourist attractions. It’s very popular, so book early.
