Coy Flat Campground

We stayed here a night in June 2018. It was far from the 'central' part of Sequoia National Forest, but we could not find anywhere to camp up on the mountain, so we ended up here. There were plenty of spots available as there were only a few people around.

This campground is located along forest service road 21S94, and we didn't think too much about it until we were awoken early in the morning by the passing of a couple of big logging trucks coming down the mountain. Since we had a 4X4 we decided to see what was up the road... and this turned out to be an excellent 'Carpe Diem' morning ride. The road winds up and up the canyon, passing several private homes (or summer places), with one spectacular place near the top. The Forest Service map we had indicated that we were approaching a grove of Sequoia trees, so we forged ahead and were astounded by what we found. I doubt that many people ever get to this grove, but it was as spectacular as it was small. It was a real treat to be there.
