This is shown as “Burnt Ranch (BLM)” on the map (see photos). There are nine miles of well maintained gravel road starting at the end of pavement/entrance to the Painted Hills Unit of John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and ending at the sign for Burnt Ranch Beach Recreation Site. The road going in is very steep and rough. I would not attempt to enter this area unless you have a 4x4 truck camper. Once there, the site is beautiful and the beach area (walk-in only) is spectacular with lots of room for tents. The upper area (see picture of my truck parked in the middle) is suitable for a few truck campers. There are no facilities and no cell reception.
