This is one of my favorite campsites in Oregon! The river is super calm and shallow. Perfect for lounging or floating. No cell service. Access can be a little tricky if you have a low clearance vehicle. Just drive slow and its doable. No trash cans so be prepared to pack everything out. There is a bathroom facility though which is nice... more

This is a string of campsites along a beautiful stretch of the John Day River. Several can accommodate large vehicles/trailers/RVs. There are also plenty of places for tents. This camping area is past the Painted Hills unit of John Day Fossil beds. It is a little gnarly getting in but my 17 ft Escape & friend's Escape 5th wheel made it just fine. There are many campsites, some right on the John Day river. High desert & isolated. There is a pit toilet at the entrance but no other services so come prepare... more
