We're on our way to KOA camp site near by but glad we stopped here.. it was a great experience with friendly wild life close by. Stars were super bright and we bought fire wood right down the road at the gas station.. kids were able to explore around and still be in eye site.. we did spot a baby scorpion near by in the morning and it was a little windy at night but that's camping.. we all loved it and plan to stay again.. 5 stars..

I had initially planned to see if I could get away with parking out on the flats in the parking area at the end of the paved road. As sunset approached, however, the 11 million bugs that swarmed drove me out towards higher ground. This was a good choice. I saw a couple folks out near the base of the mountains which looked great, but for just one night I stayed just off Leppy Pass Rd. The bugs were not a problem there. Great speeds on Verizon, slow but usable on ATT. Certainly a much nicer spot than the gravel lot just off the interstate.

Take the dirt road to the right from leppy road for that.

This is a nice place to camp near the Bonneville Salt Flats. It is on a slope just west of the salt flats, as they approach the mountains of Wendover. It is just wide open space with a BLM bulletin board showing the map of what is BLM and what is state land. When you get off the highway you pass the Sinclair gas station (with really great Mexican Cafe inside) and then where the road turns right to head out to the flats, you can turn left onto Leppy Pass Rd. which takes you up to the BLM area.
We saw a few other campers during our stay. Leppy Pass Rd gets a little bit of traffic, so you may want to camp farther away. There are certainly opportunities for any size rig in here, depending on the weather.
It is 5 miles down the main road to the parking area on the salt flats. When we were there in November, the flats were covered in a few inches of water so we couldn't walk out on them. Made for some pretty cool sunsets though.
