It does get windy here but we’re camping in our car so doesn’t bother you then.

Camped here in our travel van. Only a few off road vehicles during the day light. At night we were all alone. Very quiet and peaceful. Amazing views. Highly recommend.

We love camping here whenever we start heading south for the winter. There’s plenty of places to camp and the further in you go the more alone you will be. There’s no overnight camping allowed on the Salt Flats but it’s more peaceful by the Silver Island Mountains anyways.
The furthest we’ve taken out 32 foot travel trailer is 2 miles past the entrance sign but I’m sure there are more places to camp past that. If you’re towing a trailer or in a large RV be sure to walk down any of the small roads before driving down them. Some end in pretty tight places.

We stopped there with the motorhome and took the Jeep to find a more secluded spot up the road. The road was washboard, but it was worth it once we got back into our spot for three nights. Peaceful is an understatement, especially at night under the full moon. We will plan on stopping here every time we pass through. It doesn't hurt that there was a fast Verizon signal for the hot spot.

Stayed here 9/17/2020 to 9/18/2020. I just needed a spot to crash for the night on my way down to Great Basin and thought this would be an interesting detour. I honestly wish I would have allowed for more time to stay here because I easily could have stayed a week or two.
The Campendium GPS marker is on a very large open space where a number of rigs can all park and that seemed to be where everyone went. I decided to go off one of the side roads and quickly found a nice spot that was away from everyone else. It looked to me like you could pull out just about anywhere here and camp. As another reviewer mentioned, it does all slope down from the mountains so getting level can be a bit tricky but it's far from the worst I've seen. This area is pretty close to I-80 but I really didn't notice much highway noise at all.
The Verizon service here is great and I had full bars the entire time. It's also only about 5 miles from the salt flats. I rode my bike down there to check it out which was a really cool experience.

What a great find on our way west. Close to highway 80 (could hear the traffic faintly in the distance), nearby to Wendover for supplies. BLM land slightly elevated off the flats. Beautiful mountains as a backdrop and make for a great day hike. Full cell service. No hookups, this is a great wife open boondocking experience.

Even during Labor Day long weekend there were very few campers here. There is tons of wide open desert available for exploring, mountain climbing, biking, off roading, etc, etc. There are many campsites dispersed over a large amount of land so you don't have to be next to anyone if you don't want to be. Any size rig will have no problem and there are probably a thousand places to pitch a tent.
The views of the Great Salt Lake Desert and surrounding mountain ranges are 360 degrees and go on forever. I was here during one of the windiest nights of the year (there were hurricane force winds not too far away in Salt Lake City) and it was a bit scary with the motorhome rocking back and forth all night, but the other six days that I was here in September 2020 were not very windy at all.
Over my week long stay I had somewhat close encounters with a lynx, a tarantula and a tarantula hawk wasp (featuring the second most painful sting in the known universe!!!). There were also many lizards ranging from a few inches long to about a foot long.
The Verizon 4G signal was strong enough to stream movies at 1080p all day and all night.
The only negatives were ultra-low humidity getting below 10% at times and the flies were annoying because they kept getting inside, but they were just house flies, nothing that bites, and they weren't around whenever there was a breeze of any kind. It was also very challenging to get level because the entire area is on a gradual slope from the mountains to the desert.
Nearby Wendover has a Starbucks and a Miller's Truck Stop (which is convenient for diesel, laundry, showers, etc).
NOTE: ...and I didn't even go more than a few hundred feet beyond the GPS coordinates at the top of this Campendium page. Based on other reviews, there are at least several more miles of camping options beyond here. Not to mention the Silver Island Mountains Scenic Byway starts here as well.

Very nice stay, very nice view. This was a random destination stop and I’m glad we took it. Haven’t had a problem with flies (yet). Make sure you bring something that can give you some shade though. Only 2 other campers within a mile of our site.
