“Quiet for an ORV focused State Forest Campground”

We picked a fairly wide open lake front site. A majority of the campers had side by side ORVs for the local trails but during our stay they were very respectful of speed rules, noise, and quiet times.

I am long-time UP resident and am catching up on places I always meant to go in the east end. I have embarked on a months-long RV trip and am hitting some rustiucnds before I head downstate. Apparently, State Park campgrounds are closed until 22 June but State Forest campgrounds opened earlier this week. This place is handy because I want to visit the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point and afterwards continue on to the Lower Peninsula.
The campground is set beside Andrus Lake with perhaps half of the campsites close to the water. It appears that the lake is abnormally high as sites to the left of the entry are blocked by a flooded road. The sites to the right are all usable and today (a Saturday) perhaps half are occupied.

We stayed here for 4 days while exploring the Whitefish Point area. Nice wooded sites, sandy lakeshore with swimming area. Water, pit toilets and garbage disposal are the only amenities. If you depend on solar, there are a few sites that are sufficiently clear to charge panels. We were able to make do by deploying our portable panel and moving it around throughout the day.
This is a State DNR campground which requires you to purchase a "Passport" ($9/day or $31 for an annual pass for out-of-state vehicles in 2016). The Passport is required at all Michigan DNR or State Parks, so if you're planning to be in the State for more than 3 days it makes sense to purchase an annual.
