Most were perpendicular to the road, but some even angled the wrong way, making them extra challenging to back into. Site 37 was one of them. Some of the sites are also deceptively unlevel, which given the depth of the sites, it is a little surprising they couldn’t be made more level. Our front wheels were several inches off of the ground. The campground was largely full while we were there. AT&T coverage was “fair”, generally with 2 Bars and up to ~4 MB/s. There is no WiFi, no cable and probably no satellite coverage at any site with a roof mounted dish due to the heavily tree cover. We were able to get 4 strong OTA DTV channels with our omni antenna however.

All are located around 1 loop. The dump station is about 3/4 ways around the loop by the bathrooms, so if you get a spot after that you have to drive all the way around to get to it as it’s a 1 way road (we stayed in site 41, past the dump station). Bathrooms are nice, 2 washers and 2 dryers located outside the bathrooms (2.00 per load per machine). 3 hiking trails (.5, .75, and 1 mile loops) and lots of paved areas to walk on the roads. Niceville is close with everything you might need (even a few mile walk to Walmart/Publix grocery store!). We drove to Okaloosa public beach area (35 minutes with no tolls) which had a great parking lot, covered picnic table and perfect beach access. We have Verizon and coverage is excellent in some spots around the park, or really crappy (1 bar) in others (aka site 41).

We stayed in this park on our first trip beach-camping. The park partners with Henderson Beach Park, which is about a 30-minute drive away (toll bridge) and we drove our Class-C back and forth each day. Henderson Beach allows buses and RVs in their public beach parking and has designated spots.
We did not have to pay the entry fee to Henderson Beach because we showed them our camping pass for Fred Gannon. Would definitely camp here again and commute for our beach days.
The Fred Gannon campground is small and might be trouble for larger tows. We loved the split-rail fences around each sight and the southern live oak trees with moss that shaded the campground.

We arrived here on Friday and left late Sunday to make our way to our next destination.
It was very clean and quiet. The showers and rest rooms were very well maintained.
There is grocery shopping and dining just 2-3 miles away but you here no traffic of any kind from the campground.
If arriving from the north just be wary of your GPS directions as it may try and take you through a residential neighborhood as a shortcut

I really enjoyed having two nature trails right at the campground. This made for nice a morning walk.
One downside of the location is that it is just off a busy highway (FL-20) and you must cross to enter or leave. It can be challenging at certain times. Otherwise the noise from the highway isn't too bad.

The Florida State Park system is full of great parks for camping and this one is no exception. There are 42 sites around a single loop and some of them are right by the water with incredible views.
There is plenty of separation between sites by both trees and shrubs so there is a feeling of privacy in most cases. Each site has 30 or 50 amp RV hookups and a water connection. There is one easily accessible dump station for the campground too.
The bathrooms are very clean and the showers are large as well. In general, the campground is very clean and well-kept all around.
It's situated not far from Niceville, where you can find a Publix and a Walmart for any necessities you need. There are also plenty of chain restaurants to choose from in Niceville. But if you want a good meal for a low price be sure to check out the Po Folks restaurant by Walmart. We enjoyed it very much and left having spent just $15 for both of us.
The campground is close to nearby Fort Walton Beach in one direction and Destin in the other direction. These are both right on the Gulf and there is plenty to see and do in these areas.
We enjoyed fast internet speeds in our rig thanks to AT&T service and our cell booster. But over the air TV stations were hard to come by and the reception for them was very spotty.
So with all of these good points in favor of this park, why did I give it 4 stars instead of 5? Well, we travel in a big rig that is 40 feet long and the road through the campground is very narrow and windy in some spots. And there are tight spots that will require your full attention with a rig our size. It doesn't mean that it can't be done. It just means, be careful and go slow. We even saw a large 5th wheel that slipped off the paved road and nearly overturned going around one of the sharp curves.
Also, several of the inner sites that faced the water were not very level. In fact, we saw a few RVs in that area that had their front jacks so high to get the rig to level that the front wheels were off the ground. Even our site was sloped toward the back so far that our rear jacks were pretty high to maintain level for the coach. Other sites seemed to be more level but those that weren't, were pretty bad.
None of these things mean that we would't stay here again, because we certainly would. But they also do not mean that I feel comfortable giving this campground a 5 star rating either. Four stars are about right this time.
