Drive the twenty minutes to Algiers Point, park on street or in the open pay lot nearby. Ferries run on the half and quarters and are a quick ten minute trip across. Bring your bike or dog along to explore the city (no cars).

We REALLY liked this state park campground! This was a great, quiet, natural environment to retreat to when we came back from the city. The campground is surrounded by trees and water, so the wildlife (mainly birds - but, we did see an armadillo at night) was nice to see. We drove, UBERed, and ferried to the French Quarter, which was only 20-30 minutes from this campground! We caught up on laundry, which was FREE (just go early, otherwise, there is a line). We would definitely stay here again.
STATS:
-pull-thru and back-in sites
-electric, water
-dump station
-some sites had wooden decks
-firering
-FREE WiFi
-FREE laundry
-clean bath houses
EXPLORING:
-Our UBER driver picked us up at our campsite (although, he got a speeding ticket in the park)
-The Algiers Ferry is a MUST. The park provided us with a brochure on very helpful information for the area, which is where we found out about the ferry. It's so nice to avoid traffic, find a parking spot, and fun to arrive by boat to the French Quarter, and it was only $2/person for the 5 minute ferry ride.
-A fresh local seafood market is located RIGHT outside of the park! They offered anything and everything from the area!
DOGS:
-We loved walking the dogs down the sidewalk along the levee. Great views of the canal and bayou. The park's cabins are located here, as well.

We stayed here primarily for its proximity to downtown and it being more affordable than the French Quarter RV park. The park is in a kind of run-down part of town, but once you get through the gates, there is plenty of forest and swampland for it to feel semi-secluded. The sites are nice and spacious, and the grounds are kept clean.

We checked in for 7 nights and ended up extending our stay as we found so much to do in New Orleans and the surrounding area. We've stayed at this state park before and our assessment is much the same, a clean campground with great proximity to lots of activities. Each side is relatively flat, asphalted, with fire pit, water and electric hookups, and trash cans near each site. A couple of sites have sewer but at least one is used by the seasonal campground host, completely understandable. Some sites have wood decking to stay level with the asphalt pad and out of the water that might accumulate with a heavy rain. Sites are a good size, many with a wooded view at least on one side, though some are just out in open with no trees.
Take a right out of the park and about a block down on the right is a seafood market, worth stopping by for fresh fish, but be careful with the shrimp. Oddly, it's not uncommon to get a few mushy shrimp, usually a sign of age or being frozen, thawed and refrozen. At the end of the market is an area where, if you walk down the side of the street, you will find a tour outfit for Bayou Segnette tours, which are worth the time. Look for a Groupon for this.
Complaints about the park are two, the racetrack, and the free laundry facility. The racetrack noise is easily heard on weekend nights when there is a race. During the week what I heard was heavy equipment noises and some light engine noise. The bottom line is if you are looking for quiet on a weekend, check the race track schedule first. The free laundry is awful in my opinion. Two facilities house washers and dryers, one has one washer, the other has two washers. Each have two dryers. Only cold washing is available. The dryers are subpar in their drying capabilities. The facilities do not appear to be well maintained as there is the same dirt and debris on the floors every day, the only park of the park I found unclean. And for 98 camping spaces, the number of washers and dryers is woefully inadequate. I would prefer to pay for laundry than have this type of free service.
The camp hosts are helpful and watchful, easy to engage for help and information. I would have to say the two hosts in the campground were on top of things and that is much appreciated. I really liked that the host we passed on our way in went out of his way to introduce himself.
The park is a twenty minute drive into the heart of New Orleans where we were able to not just see the sights but, also to participate in a terrific, bawdy, adults only recommended Mardi Gras parade in the French Quarter. If you want to be near the city, it doesn't get much better than this.

We stayed at Bayou Segnette for a week; four days we went into New Orleans, the remainder we hung out at the park and enjoyed the peace and quiet. I can’t say that the park is particularly attractive in the winter, but we still managed to get in our 10K steps walking the campground. A lot of the park is swamp and there are boardwalks through some areas. The roads and pads are paved and some sites have a small wooden deck. Each site has a picnic table and firepit. Sites have water and electric (50 amp) but no sewer. There isn’t much vegetable between sites for privacy, but they are nicely spaced.
Restrooms and showers were ok – the ladies showers near us had one of the three stalls closed (it didn’t drain and looked like it had been closed awhile). I’d give them a B- for cleanliness and the same for upkeep throughout the park. One very nice bonus – the laundry was free. Open 8am to 8pm, the laundry room had two washers and two dryers. There is a dump station, large boat ramp and day use area. We didn’t try the nature trails, it rained while we were there and it was mucky. There is a swimming pool and playground. Check out the cabins right on the canal – they looked awesome!
The camp staff provided a handout with great tips for getting around the area. We drove into the city twice and took the Algiers Ferry twice. Depending on what you’re doing they both have advantages. We liked the ferry although it probably didn’t save much in the way of time, not dealing with NOLA traffic is a plus. The ferry is just $2 (exact change) each way and the parking was $5 one day and $10 on the holiday. Parking for the ferry is in a private gravel lot, so the rate can change daily. There are actually quite a few parking lots in NOLA and if you get there for the “early bird” rate in the Premium Parking lots, it’s just $12 until 8pm. A Jazzy Pass is $3 a day and lets you ride the buses and street cars for 24 hours.
Things we enjoyed in NOLA and would recommend:
• Free Tours by Foot - we did the French Quarter Culinary History Tour and it was great
• French Market and strolling the French Quarter
• Bourbon Street really didn’t do it for us, but worth it just to say “been there, done that”
• WW II Museum (plan on several hours, we were there from 10:30am to 5pm). Excellent.
• City Park – don’t miss the free sculpture garden!
• NOLA Gondola – a 50-minute gondola ride through city park (this was an anniversary treat and a lovely time)
• And, of course, eat, eat, and eat some more! Lol.
• Don’t miss the fresh seafood vendors just down the road from the campground. We went twice and each time got two pounds of fresh jumbo shrimp – super cheap!
Important Note: We also found that the GPS directions were inaccurate. Our Garmin RV740 found Bayou Segnette in its database but tried to lead us astray. We used the directions on the state park website, others have suggested using the coordinates. Whatever you do, don’t blindly trust your GPS.
We had 2 bars of Verizon 4G unboosted; 4 bars boosted. The park WiFi was too slow to do much of anything so we gave up and used our Mifi.

We don't have a car so we had to Lyft into town which was a big tricky since the campground is tucked far back into the park. We saw a Walmart on the west side town with a couple of boondockers and wished we had just parked there for the night. However, if you're towing a car or have kiddos I could see this being the perfect spot.
Gave the site quality a 4 due to the tilt on the pavement but they really are very nice.
Noise level was great for us but we were lucky enough to be away from kids and yapping dogs (which we definitely saw quite a bit of while walking our dog around the other sites).

We stayed at Bayou Segnette park Christmas to New Year's. When we first got there, the park was maybe 1/3 filled, but for NYE, I think all but one or two sites were full. It was certainly a better deal than paying $250/night for the RV park in the French Quarter for NYE.
The sites are nice and large. Some have as much as 100' of "back yard." Strangely though, everyone with yappy, aggressive dogs, staked them out next to the street instead of behind their rigs. The walk to bathrooms for our site was rather long (I counted 600 paces), and it was like passing a bunch of car alarms going off.
The bathrooms are nice (at least right after cleaning). Since they are right next to the very nice playgrounds, some kids would play in the bathroom, too, and make a pretty big mess, but the showers had nothing growing on them, and the water temp/pressure was good.
Each site had electricity, water, picnic table, and fire pit. Some of them had a wooden deck. There is only one dump station, and there was a pretty long line the day we left.
There are lots of armadillos, so you have to be careful when walking in the grass not to step in one of their holes. They seem to especially like to dig right next to the pad, so watch your step when exiting your RV.
The park has a large boat launch (4 or 5 ramps), but we didn't use it. There was a deer corpse on one of the ramps for several days which was really odd because there are park maintenance people all over the place and kept the rest of the park really clean.
The park is separated from the water by a very nice new-looking levee wall to protect against hurricane surges, but the park doesn't have very good drainage for regular heavy rainstorms. The area between the RV sites got very deep with water due to the NYE storms, but the pads all stayed dry.
There are also 16 very nice cabins along the water (outside the levee) with plenty of parking.
The only thing that was really a downside for us was transportation. They have very good security, but some of the roads are barricaded at different times of the day., and it's a long walk to get outside the park. They did not follow their closure schedule (the main entrance was supposed to be barricaded at night and another road opened), which made it confusing when trying to catch an Uber. It didn't help that Uber's maps do not seem to be correct for the area sending drivers down dead-end roads. Fortunately our drivers were persistent and did eventually find us. We took Uber into the French Quarter, and then we ferried from NO to Algiers Point and took Uber back to the park from there. On holidays, they close a lot of roads in the French Quarter, so it's a lot harder for the Uber drivers to get to you in the city, but accessing Algiers Point is easy for them. Plus the ferry ride is nice and fast.
It was the first state park that we've visited where there were more out-of-state plates than in-state.

As far as accommodations, it's great. The spots are somewhat private and spaced about 30 yards apart. The shower house is actually amazing, the best state park shower we've ever taken. There's also free laundry, although there's only two washers and dryers between 40 sites. And at least one of the machines has been broken each time we've been there.
There is even a bustling seafood market 1/8th of a mile to the east on the Westbank Expressway. Definitely check that out, even to just walk around and look at all of the crabs and crawfish.
