“Run Down Campground ”

This campground was very much in need of some care. Lots of beer cans / bottles in the fire pit; tangle of wires around the power poles; and filthy bathroom.
The location was nice and access easy.

Pros: The campground is pretty with great views shade trees and access to the Mississippi River, a playground, a day use area( including a large screened covered gazebo) There is a nearby boat dock, ATV use area, Frisbee golf course, several campsites that have electric and water, a bathhouse with showers and a viewing tower for watching the boat traffic. There was no road noise. There is noise from the barges and river boats but it was a consistent hum that did not disturb our sleep. We enjoyed watching the barges and boats go by. Cons: Unfortunately the campground is owned by a county that is not making sure it is getting the repairs it needs so it is becoming less functional. This is sad because the campground and day use area could be a huge benefit to the local community. But it is becoming forgotten. There is issues like non-functioning electrical in some sites, crumbling asphalt, batthrooms had dead bugs all over the floors and fixtures, and missing tile, the dumpsite is pretty rusty but still functional, there is no pay box or online pay site, the employee in charge of taking payments is only on site for a few hours a day. The entry gate says he will come to your site to collect your fees. So I guess they expect you to wait around for hours for him to find you.rather than just putting out envelopes and a slot in a box or at the entrance shack door. They close the gates at 7pm and do not reopen them until the next morning, so if you are there for day use or to use the dumpsite and get locked in you will need to spend the night or call the number on the gate an demand that they send out one of their employees to open the gate. They say it is for the camper's security to keep troublemakers out. Which does make since but it effectively turns the campers into captives also. If they had just made it so the exit had a push button without a code and have the gate automatically close behind the vehicle that is leaving and that also should prevent the gate from opening if there is a vehicle on the outside of the gate it would work much better. For starters just marking the non working electrical sites, cleaning the bathrooms, building a pay box and fixing the gate problem shouldn't cost a lot but would make the park much more user friendly.

This park has great potential but unfortunately it hasn’t been maintained. The landscape is beautiful but very few of the listed facilities are useable. The restrooms are closed and there’s no access. The disc golf course isn’t useable and is mostly flooded. There are a lot of campsites but many of them are under water. We were able to find a site with electricity and water which is all we needed. Currently there is a guy riding his dirt bike all across the grass, campsites, just making a lot of noise and in general tearing up the ground because it’s soft from the rain. No one seems to care. I wouldn’t stay here again but it’s ok in a pinch.

There is a gas fired power plant next door that was pretty loud overnight - basically built in white noise.

The park was inexpensive, but bathrooms and showers were totally unusable and there were no 15 amp outlets at the hookups, which is what I needed. It was right next to the Mississippi River which was nice, but I would only stay to spend one night if I needed to sleep.

Stayed here in my way to Florida. Just across the river and then up a bit. Easy access. The campground is not attended full time but the managers come each day. Nice place. Not all the hookups work, not all sites are level.
Lots of families on the weekends but most do not stay.
I would stay again as I travel across the SE.
