Very safe. People leave tents up and go. You'll be fine. Enjoy the caverns! (pro tip: the elevator up is a good idea unless you're fit as a fiddle. The walk up is no joke.)

We stayed there 2021 for two days and left our rig both days alone. We went one day hiking and the other day to the caverns. Will your rig be a hundred percent save? For sure not, but we felt save enough and trusted our fellow campers.

We were there several days and left each day for the parks or to go into Carlsbad. We had no issues.

We just stayed overnight, but the area can be seen by a busy road and has many vehicles coming and going. That’s good and bad. During the day, I’d try it.

Andrew, I spent five days a Sunset Reef while exploring the area. Felt perfectly comfortable leaving my rig for 6-10 hrs per day. There were always other campers there, and folks kept an eye out for each other; as they should.

I have stayed there several times. Just lock the door and you should have no problem. It is far enough away from any communities where criminals might search your rig. No car thief is going to travel out there just to steal aTV from your rig. They have hundreds of homes to choose from where they are at. Also, the site is visited frequently by local authorities.

I hardly see anyone else here when I've been in September, October, and May. So there are fewer people to break in, but fewer good samaritans to discourage a break-in. It's a clean spot that folks seem to respect, not like some areas that are overrun with litter, loud 4x4s, loud drunken parties, etc. I don't camp with an RV but I probably would rate this middle of the road for risk. Worse than a formal campground, better than lots of boondocking places.

We were there 2 years ago and didn't have any issues. It's fairly small and secluded... off the beaten path. A lot can change in 2 years, but I'd assume that you wouldn't have any issues. We went on hikes and explored. I wouldn't leave it for days or anything, but to go excursion should be fine.

It’s a pretty remote area but feels pretty safe. There are generally a couple other campers there
