Arrived late afternoon, found a place on the grassy area. A little muddy on the entrance after some big rain the night beforeMostly level. Porta potty clean and close by. Quiet location.

Lovely town of Sheridan Wy. The fairgrounds has electric and water. Use the aerial photo to find hookups, it is a little tricky. Would definitely stay again

Arrived at 11 pm
Gotta admit bumping across the fairgrounds was funky- but found some power on the poles and had 50A. Our generator is having opinions- getting batteries charged was a blessing!!!!

Enjoyed being here since we came to see a rodeo. But, you are parked in the middle of a horse track, no trees. Not a lot of guidance where to park. Had to move the three days of the rodeo out to the parking lot. Which was fine. They had potable water and electric for $20. We dry camped, so a great stay for free. Drove up into the Big Horn mountains several times. Loved the Black Tooth Brewery! Look for earlier review that had the map on where to go, because it is confusing. His map was spot on!! Lots of space when there isn’t an event going on.

Easy stop. We paid the $20 for power at the office. Site Map provided by another reviewer is spot on. There is water for refill and dump station on-site.

Pros:
Free! ($20/night with 20 amp hookup, free without hookups. No water or sewer hookups)
Free dump right across from where you park
Free water (RED taps, not teal ones!)
Lots of trash bins
1 mile from downtown
Gorgeous views
Good amount of use in the evenings with people bringing their horses in (= entertainment!), at least while we were there.
Great cell (Verizon), no booster needed
Not crowded
Quiet
Plenty of space to turn around and navigate
Friendly to any size rig
Cons:
Can be windy/dusty (a gust tore off our awning)
No shade
Not available if a big event is going on
Notes:
Agree with other reviewers, the aerial map that another commenter posted is very helpful in figuring out where to park. If you don't want hookups, you can park almost anywhere (there is a large space by the pond when you enter off 5th st that some people were parked in short term while we were there, and plenty of non-hookup spaces along the same fence that has the hookups).
Water is not well marked as potable, but all the red taps are city water.

Got caught in a late spring “winter storm” on our way to Yellowstone - having family in Sheridan I have always liked the town.
We ducked into the fairgrounds and flipped on the generator for the first night, next day, and second evening before continuing on.
It definitely gets muddy in the rain, not an issue for my heavy duty Ram towing a trailer but something like a class c may have second thoughts during a rain storm.

With hookups (15 amp power, so be aware): 20/night
The dumpsite and water are very helpful and located right across from the back in RV hookup sites.
Excellent Verizon service for work, low jitter limited latency (tower is right above the office.)
Navigating: (see photos)
Enter off of 5th Avenue. You will see a large paved parking area about 200 yards in, head diagonally across it to head towards the white stalls. You will then cross the race track to enter the RV area (you are driving across the dirt circle course and into what the office calls "the infield.")
The office is directly under the cell tower if you need to leave payment near where you entered the first paved parking area.

Heads up: this isn't free anymore; we called August 26, 2023 and were told dry camping was $35 and hookups were $50 per night.
