This dispersed camping area is a remote and quiet gem for small rigw. The only neighbors you will have are the wandering elk and some horned lizards.
The easiest access if from the back loop of the Head of Ditch Campground on the New Mexico side of the border. Drive to the back of the campground to where the power lines are installed and follow the maintance road for the lines. This road is a little rocky but well maintained. It is one car width and has a large cattle guard on it (see pictures).
At the moment the access to the back loop of Head of Ditch Campground requires high clearance due to how the road crosses the stream. This is being remedied as a bridge is being installed, but the completion date is not listed.
Continue past the first fork to your right, over the cattle guard to the second right fork. This is right after the sign stating 4018U. At this second fork the roads converge to make a triangle. This is the only possible turn around.
Along this route there are flat areas suitable for camping, with the biggest area at the GPS location. The area is shaded by tall ponderosa pines with light undergrowth. Their is ample elk and coyote sign and plenty of bird species.
If you continue up the road there are a few other possible sites. Once the road begins climbing into Arizona it does become rutted and will require 4X4.
The area had 1 bar of Verizon 4G and no AT&T coverage.
