“Sandy!”

Reviewed May 10, 2017

Overall Rating

When checking in, the ranger looked at me like I was crazy when she realized we had 7 day reservation, after a few days I realized why. We enjoyed the sand dunes for a couple of days, but there were several days where the wind was gusting up to 50+ mph, and it never stopped blowing. Every crack and crevice in the RV and our truck w... more

“Loved camping here!”

Reviewed Mar 25, 2017

We had a site right next to the sand dunes where our kids could go sledding. The sunsets and sunrises were both so beautiful. They rent or sell sleds at the Visitor Center where you check-in. We were staying for 5 days so it made more sense to buy than rent. There are not very many big rig sites, but the site we were in was good. We we... more

“Sunny and sandy”

Reviewed Mar 18, 2017

Overall Rating

Great spot to bounce through for one night on way to Big Bend. Will cost a bit more per adult ($4) if you don't have Tx park pass. Sand hills are fun. Not sure what you would do here for more than one day. Pretty basic. Quiet and clean. They have shaded picnic shelters. Still, be ready for lots of sun.

“Beautiful soft sand dunes”

Reviewed Oct 27, 2016

Overall Rating

First, the $15 includes electricity and water. Since we have an annual Texas Park Pass ($70) we did not have to pay an entrance fee or any additional fees. White soft sand just puts me in my happy place. Keep expecting to see blue water but just more sand. Each spot includes a covered picnic area and BBQ grill. During our coupl... more

“Footprints and Fun”

Reviewed Apr 02, 2015

Monahans was the last stop on our 8 day camping tour of the Big Bend. After 4 days without a shower we were very much looking forward to a clean up and Monahans did not disappoint! We arrived late in the afternoon, just in time to check in and rent some sand disks (before 3pm). We walked their very short interpretive trail and headed f... more

“Sleep in a Sand Box! Fun!”

Reviewed Mar 28, 2015

Overall Rating

What a fun stop this was! We've toured other sand dune areas, and always dreamt of sleeping amongst them. Monahans Sandhills SP is part of an active and large sand dune in west Texas, and the campground is right amongst them! Step right outside your door.. and go PLAY! We had a blast here climbing and sliding. However, when the wi... more
