We were assigned to site E-7, off of Pine Flats Road (Hay Road, exactly) in the Edgemere Area of Delaware State Forest (Laurel Run Road is in the Snow Hill Area). It was easy to access, with level roads but about 1.5 miles into the forest. No service for our AT&T devices. Our site was large and very level. There was a fire pit with grill and a picnic table. Getting the permit was really easy. They prefer an email but we called and then connected via email. You have to print it out and post it at your site. There are 30 sites. When you email them be sure to tell them what size vehicle you have (they don't ask on the permit form!) and they will assign a site that you will fit in. On the map they forwarded it said our neighbor would be right on top of us but they were actually quite a bit away. It felt private (with the exception of the hunters). The maximum stay is 7 days. There are lots of hunting cabins around so we weren't surprised when we heard gunshots in the morning. However, by about 8am there were gunshots in all directions. We have three smalls children and a dog and I know they technically cannot shoot within 150 ft of a campsite but we were a bit too nervous and decided to leave (after Sunday, when they can't shoot at all). We were prepared with our blaze orange gear but it was more than we are used to (coming from Vermont). We are now taking hunting into account when we search out free sites!
The Wanderlings would stay here again
