What a welcome change from the horrific last campground we visited. Though there was little available intel on this campground, what was available provided enough information to feel confident that a stay of seven nights would be enjoyable. Owners who care about their place and their customers generally provide fine accommodations. Killing time and mired a few miles out in the incessant rain I called the owner Erin from the truck to see if we could get into our site an hour early and she told us to come on in. Site 15 was just as expected though she warned us that it was still somewhat unlevel, especially for larger rigs. It took a bit of maneuvering but we settled the camper in for our extended stay. Two to three bars of AT&T and a good and steady WiFi helps. The shower and toilet rooms are clean and all in working order. Laundry facilities are also available.
A visit downtown to the Macon County Historical Museum was a nice divergence from the annoying rainy weather. A top-notch museum full of extremely interesting exhibits and a valuable historical collection. Donations are accepted and we did so very willingly.
The weather eventually turned to being almost perfect during our stay so we hiked the nearby Bartram Trail with two visiting friends up to William’s Pulpit and it was tough, but great. The round trip of about 4 ½ miles with us stopping often at three water falls, interesting vistas, and occasional rest proved the climb and return involved four hours. But it was worth it and a hike we’ll remember for a while. We ate a southern country-themed late lunch at Ms Lois’ Restaurant which served a special turkey and dressing along with their fried pork and catfish dinners.
The town of Franklin offers a bit of everything. Antique stores, a few restaurants, a top-notch music store, live music, friends of the library bookstore, and the Little Tennessee River Walk provided safe and easy hiking for exercise. Another day trip south on Hwy 64 to nearby Highlands and all the beautiful falls on the way proved rewarding and exhilarating. The falls are fantastic and there is plenty of room to pull off the road and park. On the other hand, the disappointing town of Highlands has obviously been taken over by the very rich or for people who just love to be seen. Speedy sportscars and fancy three-wheel motorcycles abound which made the astounding picturesque mountain road and switchbacks leading to Highlands somewhat treacherous.

We just recently stayed here for the second time. The campground is small and privately owned. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. Several sites are taken up by longtime/permanent guest. The other sites for those of us passing through are laid out very well to give Privacy and a beautiful view. Even though there is a playground this is probably not the ideal place for families with small children. There are some excellent tent camping spots that I wish we had known about when our boys were in scouts. The location is very convenient to the Blue Ridge Parkway and many beautiful scenic spots nearby. Also close to Vegetable stands in Orchards, which we took advantage of! Other reviews mention a poor connection for Internet. The owner told us they had recently upgraded, and we found the connection to be perfectly fine! We used our phones, laptop, and streamed television while we were there with absolutely no issues. We will definitely be back here again!

This is a tough review to write because we enjoyed our stay and I would have liked to rate the campground higher but there are problems. The campground is conveniently located as a jumping-off point to most of the area attractions. The staff was very friendly and welcoming and showed us to our site. It is a small campground and very wooded and most of the sites are close together. During our visit the restrooms and showers where closed, not sure why. About half the sites seem to be long term stay but with a few exceptions, most were well kept. Roads are pretty tight but we did see one big Class A and a couple of Fifth Wheel. Very wooded so satellite dishes are a no-go. The campground in general requires some major updating. Neighboring homes (outside of the campground) have barking dogs at night that could be a nuisance to some. AT&T cell service was very good. If you in the area and have a small coach and just planning on a day or two stay this isn’t a bad option. With some work, this really could be a little hidden gem.
John would stay here again
