We drove down from The Baltimore area to purchase our camper in Winston Salem, NC. So, this was our shakedown camping spot for three nights. We didn't get out of the dealership until after 5pm, so we were WAY late getting up to Lake Gaston. We called and Danielle told us not to worry and that we would be let in the gate and be able to find out spot. When we arrived, everything worked as Dannielle has said, and Clark met us with his golf cart, led us to our spot and then talked me right back into position. For being so late, this could not have gone smoother. We had reserved a full hookup site and found our site was on a level, concrete pad.
The lake is pretty, the park is well-appointed and VERY well managed.
Only possible complaint I had was that the full hookup sites are in a very tight cluster, so if you are unlucky enough to get some obnoxious neighbors, your lakeside tranquility can be easily broken. We were there mid-March and the weather was gorgeous. I can imagine the place gets much busier during the vacation season. It has a pool and game room / event hall / laundry and my wife's favorite . . . putt-putt golf. The site also has some docks/boardwalks on the lake side and if you are tent campers, some of the best lakeside spots are reserved for you.
Had both a Verizon and AT&T phone with me and both worked just fine on LTE service.
The vast majority of campsites were converted into semi-permanent vacation properties, so you have to get used to the constant din of motorized golf carts buzzing around your campsite, but folks were generally nice. We had a great time and the staff took great care of us. If I lived closer, I'd be there every-other weekend.

If you have anything bigger than a 25' class C it is going to be hard to get into the park. Nice location, nice amenities, but poorly designed roadways. They claim that they have full hookup Class A pull through sites. Good luck getting to the site. Be careful.

The grounds were neat and the bathhouse was very clean. The park was quiet during our stay but I’m sure it’s abuzz and busy all summer. It appeared the majority of reservable RV and tent campsites are in the front of the park, with the front row overlooking the lake but also pool, mini golf and playground. We stayed in the permanent RV area where families park their rigs year round and have structures built around these rigs. Several of these sites were ramshackle but I can picture generations of families enjoying their summers in this park. The staff was friendly and helped us get into our site. There was camp WiFi but no LTE service. Overall, the park was fine and we would stay again.
