First off, this is dry camping. No water anywhere in the park - locals say the water system broke a while back and the city opted not to fix it. But our fifth wheel is self contained so we didn’t need any hookups. We made our reservation and payment over the phone with the number listed. The gates are locked at night and opened in the morning but they give you a gate code that we used several times and because we were the only (yes, only) campers we felt a measure of safety keeping everyone else locked out. It’s a beautiful setting amongst the rocks with hiking and boulder hopping just steps away. Of the 4 sites only one was numbered so we had to guess which was our assigned #1. No one questioned us so we must have guessed correctly. We were in the area to visit family in Apple Valley and they were just 20 minutes away. There are horse riding rings and trails here and on Sunday they had an event that brought perhaps a dozen or more trailers in so if you’re a horse person you may enjoy watching the events.

Needed to find a last minute spot to camp due to unforeseen circumstances and it worked out. Call the number to reserve your spot and they’ll let you know where to go to pay (Apple Valley Town Hall - Parks and Recreation desk).
My kids liked the play ground, and it was very quiet throughout the evening.
Only disappointment is that there’s no fire of any kind, so bring pre prepped food or be prepared to eat a cold dinner.
