Gila Bend FamCamp

Seemed to all older, retired folks here. Friendly, quiet, comfortable. Jets only used airfield for touch & go infrequently while I was there. Awesome to watch! I used water hookup at my site for toilet/dishwashing only. Brought purified water for drinking. Some sites require a tool (key) to turn water spigot on. They didn't give me on at check-in so I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get water! Talked to a neighbor and he gave me his key.

Just a couple miles south of I-8 and made a good one night stop. First come-first-served with an overflow area if all the sites are full. Sites are huge and some had picnic tables, some didn't.

Security took our names down since we arrived after check-in and told us to stop by lodging in the morning. However, there are sign-in sheets available at lodging that you can fill in when you arrive after hours.

No facilities on base. The water has had issues and current status is posted in the laundry room on whether it is safe or not. Might as well come with a full-tank just in case.

No showers or bathrooms. Laundry is free with a limit of two loads per site, per day.

Verizon worked well enough for zoom calls.

This Famcamp is open to Active Duty, National Guard, Reservists, Retired Military, 100% DAV, PH Recipients, Veteran Caregivers, and DoD Civilians.

No reservations, FHU, gated inside the Gila Bend AF Station, just south of Gila Bend, AZ.

Some long timers it appears, as I saw at least one Class A on blocks, unable to roll.

If you arrive M-F between 0630 and 1700, you can check in at the Lodging Reception, bldg 4300. Otherwise, find an open site, park your rig, and walk over to Building 4300 and use a Registration Envelope and the Drop Box between the sliding glass doors.

The only noise really, were the fighter jets out of Luke AFB doing touch and gos on the tarmac in the morning. Pretty cool!
