For a free overnight stay in a parking lot I think this is as good as it gets. It is close to plenty of businesses in the area, but Cabela’s itself is tucked away down a hill away from businesses and traffic. There is a gated community apartment building across a small pond. We backed our van up to the pond side area right at a tree and had plenty of quiet and darkness on the one side, with lights from the lot all over the other for safety factor. Yes there is a train on the opposite side of the lot, but I only heard it once and it was in the morning when we were already awake and I honestly didn’t think it was loud at all. Previous reviews made it sound like an obnoxious sound but I may have honestly just slept through it overnight. Maybe it gets louder normally?? Not sure, but it was very minimal on a Friday night/Saturday morning

The RV sites are blocked, but the gentleman at Customer Service said we could park anywhere. The parking lot is slightly sloped and well lit. I would park as far away from the train tracks as possible as they are active at night.

It was a nice place, and it was safe however there is a train track right next to the parking lot and multiple trains went by shaking the entire area multiple times during the night and all 5 of the RV spots were filled with containers for the store so we had to park at the back end of the parking lot right next to the train tracks.

Not much here, but that's the point. All the local campgrounds were full (it's summer after all) and I had some meetings in the area. Fortunately for Cabela's, I spent more in the store than I would have on a campsite. Be warned, the camping, fishing and hunting section of Cabela's is super massive and awesome.

We were going to Huntsville for Memorial Day weekend. All the local and state campgrounds were full. Based on the review above we decided to try Cabela's. This location is only 5 minutes from the Space and Rocket Center. We completely agree with the review above. The only incorrectness from the above review is that the dump station is only $5 not 10 and the water is NOT-potable. The lot is mostly level and there are many security lights. This might be a problem if you do not have bedroom blackout curtains for your rig. The RV area has nice long spaces that will accommodate a 40' and TOAD. Egress is also very good as this is also their access area for Semi Truck deliveries.

It was peaceful and quiet, they had fresh water and a dump station for $10. They even had RV specific spots, although we parked on the far edge of the parking lot closest to the lake to get out of the light a little bit.
Oh yeah, did I mention that this parking lot is essentially lake front. We woke up to the pleasant sounds of geese and ducks feeding.
We'll definitely be scoping out more Cabela's instead of spending the night at noisy rest stops. Just call before you stay because some cities don't allow overnight stays.

Sometime in the past 3 months the dump station was removed.
