Overall Rating
The Bob Hardy RV Park is a city park in Blaire, NE, about 35min from downtown Omaha. Surprisingly, there aren't a whole lot of commercial campgrounds in the area, and of the two Omaha city parks, one was closed (not mentioned on website) and the other would not allow day-of arrivals. You have to reserve online 24 hours in advance.
So, we ended up at this place. It's in the middle of a neighborhood and along a noisy street. There's also a fairly active train track on one side of the park. The price is good for 30amp and flat, paved sites though. There are only 8 sites, and they are first-come, first-served. We arrived at 2:30 on a Friday in early September and two sites were available. The park did fill up over the weekend. As we leave, there are 4 sites available. One site is a pull-thru, the other 7 are back-ins. 4 sites share two water spigots (spliters are mounted on them). The other three sites have no water. There is a free dump station, which you could probably use even without staying here.
There is a 5-day stay limit, and only checks are accepted in a pay box. $15 for RVs and $10 for tents that pitch in the grass (non-electric). All sites have a picnic table, and are flat, paved, and I'd say around 45' long. All have room to overhang off the back. Our 37' bus fit fine with room for our minivan to park sideways. There is a small sand playground. The bathrooms are pretty rough, as you can see in the pictures, and they don't get cleaned daily. But the shower did have steady hot water. The municipal water is clean and tastes fine.
It's an OK spot to visit Omaha. Even though it's wide open, and there is no staff or host, we felt safe. It's right across the street from a fire station. There is fast food, a few sit-down restaurants, and a grocery store closeby. We'll probably try a different location next time, but would be OK with staying here again.
