If you don't look for glamping, this place is for you. Nice, quiet place at almost 4000 ft high. Host Mike is the best host I have encountered in 35 years of camping in the US. Thank you, Mike!

We’ve stayed here many times but have always booked the back in sites c1-c3. The sites in the field are unimproved and some can get mushy after it rains. The owner always brings more than enough firewood for the pit. He is super helpful. On the downside it is a mountain top so winds sometimes absolutely rip over the campground never leave a door unsecured or an awning unattended. Once while we were there it came a blow and the bath house door went flying because someone left it open. These are rare incidences and as long as you respect the nature of the area you’ll be fine.

They only offered electric with their rates.

We camped in tents at site #9 which is partially wooded and partially in the field. It’s the best tent-site in my opinion as it gives you privacy but a comfortable grassy area to spend your evenings in. Plenty of room for canopies and tents.
As mentioned by other reviews, getting up here with a rig could be troublesome. There is a big class A here and two airstreams, so you can definitely do it though. The road is gravel and there is one steep climb. For about 1/4 mile the road is washed out on the right side, but any experienced tower should be fine.
Cell coverage is 2 bars on Verizon for an iPhone 12.

The campsite was wonderful, and has a beautiful view. A great way to watch the fall foliage change. Even when the site is full there is plenty of space at each site. There are trails on site and near by state parks to hike. We had been to Boone and blowing rock times in the past, and both are an easy drive. Unfortunately it rained a lot during our week, but there were many great activities in town for our 2 year old to enjoy as well.

The road was gravel and had some steep climbs that required me to engage my 4WD. Once you got into the campground it was nice. The staff was very friendly and the bathroom were large and clean. A lot of the sites were around the perimerter and tucked back into the woods. Ours was perfect and had good shade. The other site are out in the open on grass. They have some really nice and private tent sites. Water was not at the sites but you could fill up on the way in. Nice elevation for cooler weather in the summer.

He made sure the road up was clear of passing vehicles before we ascended the gravel road to the campground entrance. Take your time going up and don’t drive faster than 5 mph and you’ll be fine. Once you reach the top of the mountains, it’s Valhalla! The campground is beautiful beyond words, surrounded by mountains, extremely clean with spacious campsites. There are numerous, well maintained hiking trails to enjoy. Some of the trails are fairly strenuous so it makes for a great daily workout. Our lab loved playing in the pond. The private individual bathrooms are very clean. The mountains are visible in all direction- it’s simply gorgeous. There is no water hook up at the individual sites however it’s very easy to fill your water tanks at the office before you settle in. The staff is very helpful and eager to offer assistance. You’re gonna love this place.

Like mentioned by other reviewers, the hosts of the small campground are friendly, and the few bathrooms that they have are clean. We visited in May during COVID-19, and we were impressed by their policies and sanitation efforts. There were record low temperatures with a heavy storm rolling in, so there were very high winds. Luckily, there were very few tent campers since wind could be an issue on the mountain.
The RV hookups are spaced apart giving privacy, rare in privately-owned campgrounds. It is also conveniently located near towns although we didn't visit them. The drive up could be a challenge in a large rig, but our pop-up handled it quite well, even in the rain. The trails can be quite strenuous at time due to the grade and rocks, but they are well-marked if you pay attention. There was no vista point on the trails, but there is a small pond and other beautiful natural features. If we were tent campers, I would definitely stay at one of there remote sites! Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we can't wait to return!

“Not Hospitable ”
noted 11/17/2021
Made on line reservation night before. Four pullthru sites with full hookup available. Had a major, expensive breakdown of TT on the way there. Set back two days. Requested refund the day of. 11/14 and was told no but we could stay there any day within the next year-if available! Asked to speak to manager. NO EXCEPTIONS FOR REFUNDS. Just added to our breakdown dilemma. Not very understanding
