Is there a water source nearby? Not necessarily looking for drinking water but for washing dishes, etc.

We only drove in about a mile to the picnic area called, Angel Peak Badlands Overlook. Spent 1 night and the view was worth it.

We had already tried to drive into another place earlier this day, but the wheel size washboard ruts limited our progress. We were somewhat skeptic after this was dirt road access again, but this road was under maintenance from the oil company clearly. The dirt road was somewhat graded, and had a decent layer of sand / silt for some smoothness.
The actual site is small, but we scored an epic spot right at the very edge. This allowed us to peer out of our roof top tent into the very valley below!

We were planning on staying at the Farmington Walmart for the night on our way to lake Powell and at the last minute checked the Campendium app and found this gem. The road is a bit bumpy but we took it slow with our 35ft toy hauler . They were grading it when we left so may be better now. We were the only ones there and the scenery was amazing. There are only really 2 sports for large rigs back there and plenty of smaller ones but I’m sure you can park anywhere you want back there because there isn’t anyone to tell you not too. It sure beat Walmart for the night. The road is right off rt550 and there is a sign. Don’t miss this spot

Wonderful experience. Toilets not great but well worth the cost. Only advice is to be wary of Google directions if coming from southeast. It got us there but a few turns felt like goat paths. The right road will take you all the way in- it is county road 7225.

The setting was gorgeous; moderate to light traffic.
The trail out to the point was nice, a bit steep and slick rock/sandy in some spots but even those with bad hips and balance issues were able to do it, just wear hikers and maybe take a hiking-stick/poles.
Speed tests:
Verizon, even with a booster was not usable. down/up .05/.07, boosted down/up .24/.20.
ATT Mobley saved the day - boosted down/up 3.17/7.48

We found a site that suited us for our Jeep with a rooftop tent. Had a couple of other campers here as well. Did see a class A in one site. Sites are not too big. The view of Angel Peak is great though. We had excellent internet and 4G LTE on Verizon. The vault bathrooms that we went to was not stocked with toilet paper. Oh well, we did bring our on. Yes we would stay here again.

Angel Peak is a very nice camping area, and like many areas in New Mexico, has great amenities. The shade pavilions at this site are great. There are also clean vault toilets, but no hookups. The dirt road into this area can get very "washboard" so be prepared to take it slow. The views from every campsite are great: sweeping canyon and desert vistas. The night skies are awesome as are the sunsets! Winds in New Mexico can be brutal, so face masks and head coverings are often a necessity. But overall, free camping in the desert doesn't get any better than this.

Sunrises and sunsets are absolutely beautiful and so are the daytime canyon views from our BLM picnic table. Very quiet with 3-5 pickup trucks passing by per day.
This one will be on our short list for the Four Corners area.

I spent 7 years in the Northwest corner of NM (Farmington) in the early 70's. I had truly forgot how breath taking Angel Peak is. You have to experience it to understand. I know there are many treasures across this vast country and A.P. is one of them. We will come back!
