Brand new to boondocking and wondering if you have to be military to stay here? Any help would be appreciated.

We decided last minute to check out White Sands National Park, and this little camping spot did not disappoint. We got there just before sunset, and lucked out getting a great spot as it got very busy an hour after we arrived. Amazing sunset and sunrise as well as very quite. The lake is not swimmable and it is advised not to go into it but you can build a small fire and enjoy the views. White Sands National Park is less than a 5 minute drive away.

Just keep in mind if you have a bigger size rig it will be a rough road in. The cattle guard and the huge dip is annoying, but once over that part you are golden! Plan to unhook your tow before heading through the gate, it is very narrow! Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay and the fellow campers were friendly!

A small rig or a big rig would fit here. Small rigs and vans can easily drive further in. Big rigs may want to use one of the first few pullouts as it is more flat and easier to turn around. The further you go in the more hard to level a longer rv.

I read one review that said there was potable water and a dump station on site, however we did not see either. The water itself is toxic. No swimming, fishing, etc is allowed. But it was still a beautiful free spot with really nice sunrises and sunsets. I picked up a lot of broken glass in our site which is always such a bummer to find. But overall it was pretty clean. Would definitely stay again!

If you look for the lake on google maps, it’s not too hard to find, shows up as a “recreational area”. Go slow at the entrance, as it’s washed out after a cattle strip. We were one of 8 other people there. Beautiful sunset. White Sands NP opens at 9, so it’s handy to stop there.

Easy peasy just like everyone has already said. Once you go over the cattle guard, there's another dried out lake...drive past that. To enter the gate, you have to be heading westbound. Just before the gate, there’s a brown sign with binoculars on it, the entrance is right there. It’s quiet and beautiful but the lake itself is completely toxic. No swimming, fishing or boating allowed. There is a dump station on site and potable water.

This is a perfect location very close to White Sands National Park. There are several spots to park almost any size rig. Some overlooking the lake and others further back. If coming in from the east the entrance is obscured by a hill so it comes up quickly. I recommend making a big swing left before making the right turn especially with bigger rigs. If coming in from the west look to the left and you will more than likely see other rigs which makes finding the entrance easier. As others have mentioned there is a left turn lane from the west. Dont let the less than desirable retention pond fool you. There is a pretty lake behind it where the parking is. Defiantly will stay here agin when passing through there area. About the only noise which wasn't bothersome was jets from the AFB.

If coming 70 East there is a turn lane into the drive.. The gates are at a odd angle so it makes it very tight on the way in. We have a full sized Ram and a 37' travel trailer and made it but recommend a spotter cause it is very close. We only smelled something one day during our stay and it was no worse than your black tank smell while dumping. Spots are limited but if you can get one it is a perfect spot for visiting White Sands National Park.
