Just 5 mins up the road from the popular Laurel Falls hike, and while there's zero cell service at the CG, the two overlooks on the visitor center side of the Laurel Falls parking area had a few bars of AT&T LTE, plus a couple bears who seemed to be enjoying making cars swerve all over the road as people gawked at them.
Just beyond the CG on the same road, is the abandoned summer settlement of Daisy Town with a variety of old cabins you can explore.
In nearby Gatlinburg (15 mins from camp and generally kind of a touristy turn-off to us), you can access a "motor trail" that was actually a really pretty one lane road through deep woods and with access to several trails and waterfalls.
If you happen to need any trailer service after driving the road through the Smokies, Ricky's RV Repair in Sevierville about 30 mins away was great and Dollywood is convenient to entertain yourself while you wait!

We stayed to see the annual synchronous fireflies and couldn't have been happier. Well, maybe if our neighbors hadn't run their generator for the full 12 allowed hours, but all you had to do was step down to the creek and sit in your hammock and all other noises faded away.
The sites were clean and easy to access, although primitive (several clean restrooms but no showers...although there's a good dishwashing station). Dump station 10 miles down the road near the visitor center. Loved the location - a few miles from a nice hike to Laurel Falls, and some great overlooks as well as somewhat near town....but far enough out for no cell service and super clean air.
By far the best thing is the river though-- more like an oversized shallow creek with lots of rocks for the kids to scramble over and fallen trees to use as balance beams. The kids played for hours and had a blast. And listening to the creek all night was wonderful.
