Only 2 sections are open this week, Buffalo Loop and Elk Run. Some electric in the first.
We only just arrived so I’ll update later. Bathhouse and pit toilets nearby. E have electric and water. Some have neither.
I don’t understand the lamp posts but we could avoid them as Juniper was closed and we wanted electric.

Arrived on a Sunday in late May when the campground was only about half full. Beautiful high campground, mostly open, with good site separation and lake views. Asphalt loop and pull-through driveway with a moderate slope to the front. The site was long and had an extra parking spot at the back. Covered picnic table and fire ring provided but no fires were allowed during our stay due to high fire danger at the time. Picnic sites and day use areas were still closed due to the pandemic restrictions but during normal operations this location is surely very busy. Didn’t check the restrooms and showers as we use our own facilities but the campground sites were pristine. Camp hosts were friendly and very informative. Excellent cell service due to being up on the hill and a cell tower within sight of the campground. The Cochiti Lake mini mart, just about a mile away, has gas, food and a great laundromat. Easy drive to Santa Fe or Albuquerque. $10/night reflects NPS senior pass discount. Will return to this campground if our travels bring us back to the area.

AC of E have been some of our favorite campgrounds as we travel the US. Price reflects 50% discount with National Park Sr. Pass. Friendly, helpful volunteers. Site was at the top of the campground: Juniper Loop. Beautiful views and quiet. Bathrooms/showers were clean (and in better shape further down the hill) but all needed some upgrades/repairs. Small convenience store nearby and, oddly, a large modern laundromat. Cell tower nearby offered an excellent Verizon signal. Tribal-owned/managed areas remained closed.

The bathroom and shower facilities were nice; the campground was fairly quiet. It was just open after being closed due to COVID, so I'm not sure that the sites were being rented at full capacity. The campground is very open, and there's not a lot of vegetation to screen campers from each other, but they are spaced out a bit, so it's not too bad.
We went down to the lake, where there are only a few picnic tables that get claimed pretty early. It would have been nice to have a kayak or paddle board. Swimming was fine; the water is pleasant and feels nice. The only issue is that the beach is pebbly instead of sandy, so we needed a blanket, but the beach is also FULL of ants, so we didn't stay out of the water long.
Navajo Nation parks (Tent Rocks) are still closed or severely limited right now due to COVID, but I imagine this would be ideal for visiting the surrounding parks.

Buffalo Run campground #51, Rate reflects Lifetime Pass discount. When we arrived to this shadeless spot high on a hill above Lake Cochiti, it was hot enough to stroke out. We plugged in, turned on the AC and hid out for two hours, and opened the door to the prettiest coolest evening and a million dollar view and spectacular sunset. The site was a pull-thru, E + W, more privacy than all the other sites in this part of the park, paved, had a street lamp style light, covered picnic table, grill, all spotless! Campground was full, but quiet after dark. Mishap at shower bldg the next morning left the women's locked, but the men's was decent enough with my husband standing guard. We'd planned two nights but schedule change meant we had to leave after one, but we'd come again. Kudos to the Corp of Engineers. Super friendly volunteers at check-in,

Recreation.gov cancelled two confirmed reservations that we had for late April and August 2021 with no explanation. My guess is that because Cochiti Lake is on/near Native American land, they’ve chosen to remain closed this season despite much of New Mexico starting to open up again. Check before you plan to visit.

There was no park ranger to meet at the front office. We deposited $12 to the box due to camping at a site that had no electricity. The price for sites with electricity was $20. There was no park ranger to meet at the front office. We deposited $12 to the box due to camping at a site that had no electricity. The price for sites with electricity was $20. Only Buffalo Grove loop (some sites with electricity) and Elk Run loop (some water connections) were open. We ended up staying at Elk Run loop on site #36 which had no water connection. Since it’s the month of March it was a first come first serve type of deal. Campsite is about 15 min from the Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument. No dogs are allowed at the Tent Rocks. Dogs are allowed at the campground. There is also a mini mart and laundromat close by. Facilities are kept clean. There is also a dump station on the way out of the campground.

We used this as a base to explore Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Tent rocks is close by and a must see. We used this as a base to explore Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Tent rocks is close by and a must see. There was no park host or ranger (that I saw) and no one at the gate so we found a spot and deposited our money in the box. The campground closes on 11/30 so I assume since they were slow, that is why no one was on site. The bathrooms were clean, the campsite is clean and well maintained and all the sites are pretty large and some have great views of the lake.
There is a small convenience store and a laundromat nearby but other than that, it’s at least a 15-20 min drive to gas, propane, and groceries so come prepared.

Overall Rating
This campground is full of life. I even scared up a rabbit during a walk. It's serene, beautiful, and somewhere I want to spend more time. There were only a few campers in November. Lots to explore nearby. The amenities are clean. It's quite a drive from civilization, but it's a breathtaking journey!
