Pros for me… next to Bayou water, which was beautiful, with small fishing dock. Green grass so my doggos could relaxed under trees. Not right in town but only five minutes away. Close to Creole Nature Trail and many lakes and waterways. Short drive to Gulf of Mexico.
Cons… bathrooms were not cleaned once our entire four day stay. Camp host and two of what seemed to be “residence” buddies ALL let their dogs run loose. I have two 100lb dogs, one medium sized and one small dog which I keep in control and leashed since I started traveling two months ago. They would seemingly intentional walk their dogs unleashed past us every time we were outside, or suddenly pop up and looked surprised if the dogs barked. Not cool. The city’s landscape crew came in and pelleted the side of our camper with gravel from weed eater.
Could be wonderful but… oh well

I travelled here with a 35’ 5th wheel, long bed pickup and parked in site #7, an E/W, PT site for $12/night. This is a lovely little park! The roads and sites were asphalt with concrete pads. The site was very level and easy to get into. The sites are totally open to the sun and are somewhat closely spaced. There is a long boat dock just down the road. The bathhouse is ok. It needs a coat of paint and is unheated so it was pretty chilly when I was there. I didn’t use the showers as a result. I had 1-2 bars LTE with Verizon, no wifi and only a handful of OTA channels. I would imagine that it could get really hot and buggy in the summer given the proximity to the river/bayou. In February it was really nice. It was very quiet. It’s a great value and I would definitely stay there again.

We stopped in just for 1 night. It was perfect!!! Electric & water hook ups. All spots were full. We we’re expecting a loud evening but was pleasantly surprised everyone was quiet around 9pm. Highly recommend this place. And the price was excellent. Only $12 🙌

We checked in on January 15, after setting up, a stray dog wandered to our campsite. There was an altercation with our dog. We contacted the onsite supervisor and advised. He said he would contact the parish the next day. The people camping next to us, who had been there for a week, said there were several stray dogs around and he told them the same thing. He did put the dog in his yard but it jumped out. We unhooked and picked up to find another place. Luckily Sam Houston Jones had a space. If you have a dog, would not recommend staying there. Have contacted the park for a full refund. Looks like a very nice park except for possible stray dogs.

Camped 5/7/22 (Sat night). Was able to reserve online, and all sites are level, with a cement pad and pull-through. A nice place, well maintained, and the camp host was super friendly, but it's not our ideal campground. It was hot, and sites are right next to each other. Next to us were big RVs running their air conditioners the whole time, so it wasn't exactly nice and quiet. It was also a Saturday night, and there was an event at the park's pavilion, so the traffic going by was regular, and not always slow. The sites are along the road to the boat launch, so you get that traffic too.
Bathrooms were fine, but we didn't take showers, so can't comment on them.
I would have given this a 3 rating; however, because the sites were long, wide, level and pull-through with hookups for only $12, I gave a 4. Grass was nicely mowed, and the host had even edged along the cement pads. It was convenient to have a trash can at the site, and there was also a picnic table, fire ring and grill. Dump station was at the end of the loop.

We were so glad to have found this place! It was a perfect spot to be able to go into Lake Charles from and we really enjoyed the town! Way bigger than we thought with beautiful parks & boardwalks. The locals are so darn nice and after traveling around for the past few months, that is saying something! We have really encountered some overall rude and stuck up cities, like Dungaree CO, so Lake Charles was refreshing to visit. Heck, we actually started looking at house prices here and we are from the Pacific NW! 🙂
Campground has a great launch for boats and kayaks, so most of the daily traffic was from that, but other than the very loud birds at the crack of dawn, it was extremely quiet. Very clean too! Nice playground for kids that the locals use primarily.
We were a tad taken aback to be asked for our driver’s license number by the camp host though. Didn’t really want to give it out and we now are questioning ourselves as to why we did it.
TOURISTY INFO: We really enjoyed watching locals crab off the boardwalk downtown and watched them pull in huge blue crabs every single minute! Crazy! We did indulge in the drive through crawfish places and “Crawfish Boil ‘n Go” was hands down the best place to get them, like their reviews said. Honey B Ham was one place the locals told us to go and we enjoyed the boudin balls there but the crawfish weren’t as good or as clean as the Boil n Go place. The casinos were a nice respite from the heat, to walk through. Very clean and not filled with smoke.
Very weak cell service was the only drawback, but it would eventually work, just slow.
