Reasonable cell service with US cellular.

Loved this park, a new favorite. We stayed here Oct 6-11th and it was perfect. State park is on the Shenandoah River and while the sites themselves are not on the water that doesn't detract at all from the experience. Lots of trails for hiking and biking as well as splendid pollinator fields and garden. Just a few miles from entrance to Shenandoah National park and Skyline Caverns. Loved our stay here and will be back. Check in was easy - we were in the upper loop where you have a reservation but don't get your site until you arrive, then you can pick from whatever is open. Frankly we liked that much better than the lower loop with site specific reservations. Level sites, clean bathrooms, showers and laundry facility. Heads up that there was no WIFI anywhere in the park - only had WIFI when we left the park but that was fine with us.

We stayed at this park in October 2020. It was better than stunning. The foliage was spectacular. Sites were big, clean, and very helpful and friendly camp hosts! Plenty of trails to hike and ride bikes. I can’t wait to go back!

I agree with another reviewer that the first come first serve sites 1-18 might actually be the better sites. the parking for any vehicle other than your towing or toad, is non-existent but overall it was good.
To get to the river or to any of the shelters is about a 2 mile drive from the campground area. and the campground is up and over a small mountain/large hill. If you have never been before, suggest parking along the road and going and looking for a site.
There appears to be a flight path for the nearby small airport that goes directly over the campground but there aren't many flights. Just heard a couple during the late evening.
Verizon is non existent but AT&T and others were very good. I ended up making all of my Verizon calls over the Wi-Fi through AT&T.

SRSP is our go-to campground. It's always clean, well maintained and has friendly staff. This park is family friendly. Rangers patrol periodically, but they don't stop and harass unless you're openly displaying alcohol (keep it in a plain tumbler or use a koozie). Camp Hosts are always friendly here and have firewood at their site for purchase. The first loop as you drive into is non-site specific; you pay for a site, but get there early on the day of arrival or you pick from what's left over (sites 10, 12 & 14 are best in this loop; the trail to the river is right behind the campsites). Site 16 is great in early spring or late fall when leaves are gone; you can see the river from this site! The worst site in the first loop is site 7, it's pull through with no privacy, but it's very close to the bath house. The second loop is site-specific and pretty much all sites are nice, even the interior ones. Site 31 is right next to the bath house. Sites 19 & 20 are deep back-in sites with stone retaining walls. Sites 23 & 24 make a great group site. Site 25 is fairly private. Site 27 is handicapped (paved driveway, but pad is gravel). The path to the river in the 2nd loop is to the right of the Yurt. There's zipline in the park, but we've never done it.
River Activities: fishing is good a some of the access points. During warm weather, tubing, canoeing and kayaking are popular activities. Bring your own or rent from local companies. You can swim, but most people go down by the main boat launch because it's easier to walk into the water there. The current can be strong at times, so be careful with small children. If you like lazy river tubing, bring a tube to carry your coolers and a small rope or anchor to tie off your tubes to stop and swim or eat. Most people launch tubes at Indian Hollow Rd. bridge and exit at the campground (there's a "Tube Exit" sign) or at the main boat launch. Kayakers & Canoes exit at the park's boat launch or all the way down at Gooney Creek (hide your alcohol here; police are sometimes parked there watching, especially on summer holiday weekends). Blue Gill and Bass are plentiful in the river. Catfish are in the river and many can be seen down by Gooney Creek. Bath Houses in the campground are average for public facilities. AT&T has good coverage but Verizon is bad here. Bring your camera because it's pretty here! Lots of nice views from trails and the overlook. Take kids to the visitor center because the staff are fun and friendly. The entrance to Front Royal is just a few miles down the road. Eat yummy BBQ at the PaveMint and ice cream at C&C Frozen Treats in Front Royal.
This is a very popular campground that books up early. It has an 11-month booking window. However, if you can't get a last minute reservation for a weekend, use the notification feature in Reserve America...there's a 75% chance someone will cancel at the last minute. I've grabbed spots numerous times this way. This is a fun park!

Fantastic signal with AT&T - probably the fastest speed our hotspot has put out of anywhere we have stayed!
