Overall Rating

The campground was easy to find. Checkin was simple and our site overlooking the Ohio River was easy to find, get into with a great view of thee Ohio river. The full hookup components were in good shape and placement. The level site was covered with coarse gravel and included the usual picnic bench and fire ring. There was a wire fence separating the sites along the steep bank leading to the river. Good if you have kids but spoiled view of the river when siting outside. However the view from our RV was great - we watched barges of many types moving up and down the river with a dam and locks visible about a mile upstream.
The trees on site were all young saplings about 6-8 foot tall. My wife didn't like the coarse gravel - said it hurt her feet even with shoes. There are train traacks crossing at the entrance with frequent trains passing with horn and engine noises.
Overr all experience was good. Atee out one night at a nice pizza place in nearby Franklin Furnace and toured the river wall murals in Portsmouth.
