Prude Ranch

Stayed at the upper RV campground for one night. Fairly secluded, choose your own space - bit sloped. Bottom campground may be more flat and is pull thru. Top is back-in. Hookups very well taken care of. No leaking water faucet. Electric also good. Did not use dump.

Gravel only. People don't pick up after their dogs so be careful.
Very windy when we were there in April. Was 37F at night.
Staff was very friendly and have a nice reception setup at the entrance to the ranch. There is a clubhouse with TV at top of hill.
No OTA TV reception otherwise. No Cable. Very spotty AT&T cell reception.
Only 15min away from McDonald Observatory if visiting there.
Would stay again.

Just a few miles out of Fort Davis, and close to McDonald Observatory. Very quiet in February, and full hookups are in good shape. I have been boondocking for the last few nights, and was hoping for a place with a good, hot shower. The showers were so filthy, with black gunk creeping up the shower stalls, that I'll never know if they were hot or not. Affordable price, and shower in your RV, and this is a nice place to stop.

The place is nice and quiet and the staff was very nice. It’s close to the state park and the observatory as well.
WARNING: If you have pets or small children I would avoid the rv parking lots. There were tons and tons of tiny thorns that got in our dogs paws the minute we got out of the vehicle. You can’t even see them on the ground until they are stuck in your shoes or feet.

Being December when we came through Ft. Davis we had our choice of spots to park. Emerald, the office manager was very sweet and very helpful with local information. The ranch is probably a great place to take the family during warmer weather with lots to do, but we were quite happy to have complete peace and quiet for our night's stay. It also looks like a great place for large group camping.
Easy pull through sites, easy to find and not far from either the town of Ft. Davis or McDonald Observatory. The only negative I would mention is that the grounds are full of goats head prickers, which end up lodged in your shoes and rugs if you aren't diligent about checking for them. Not great for pets, I would expect.
The place has a great rustic ambience, charming even in the dead of winter. We would stay here again if passing through.

Found this beautiful location while searching for a campground near Fort Davis, TX. Close to observatory, Fort Davis State Park and the Historical Fort Davis. The Purdue Ranch has been here since 1897. Trail ridding, heated indoor pool, walking trails and stunning views. The staff are amazing and friendly. The Ranch is mostly active in summer months with rodeos, and horse ridding. Lodged and cabins. I will definitely be retiring and making this my exclusive stay when in Fort Davis area. There are two RV camping areas with full hookups. Pet friendly, great area for families traveling with children. Faint highway noise from Texas highway 118, traffic noise was almost nonexistent as it’s mid-February, so the Ranch is slow at this time. Weather wasn’t bad, 60s-70s during the day, cooler 30s-40s at night. Breakfast and lunch offered I the large banquet hall for additional reasonable cost.

PA rate for 1 night-$13 then $26 for second night. FHU, only 2 -50 amp sites available. The rest are 30 amp. Fine for us. Our site was level. Others in our section had some slope. First come, first serve. We were the only ones here. Fun watching the dogs herd the sheep all around the ranch. Since it’s winter and mid-week, no one here at the other overnight facilities. Horse back riding available. Pool was not open.
Friendly check in person. No AT&T cell service. Good WIFI so we could send email to family to let them know where we are.

Stayed here as Passport America site. Paid $13 first night and $26 the second. Location is typical west TX and a bit dusty. Hosts were very friendly and offered to gather horses to go horseback riding. Location had the feel of old west ranch. Location was perfect for Ft Davis historical site and hiking. UT telescope with visitor center close by.
